I just strung mine with Dean Markley Blue Steel Nickels. Man, I love that bright, grindy tone. That would be just about the opposite of flats on a PBass, but I suspect that's not what you're after.

But what strings do you all like on tour TB's?

I will be getting one and want to string sort of 'opposite' of my PBass, which has ChromemFlats on it.

Though, If I can still get that Thunderbird sound with flats I would love to stay with them.

I have been using black D'Addario tapewounds with my Gibson and Greco thunderbirds. They have big thump with t-bird pickups, but still have the growly mids that t-birds are famous for. They come in a medium gauge. I tried flatwounds, but they were just a bit too dead sounding for me. Surprisingly bright is the common description. Maybe they are steel rounds under the nylon tape?

I love the feel of the flats... That's one reason I would like them... But having a counterpart to my PBass is more of a priority...
Just looking for a nice classic,kind of Allen Woody thing...

Mine also turned out great, you should ditch the day job. Took some pics of my ebony t-bird with both white and black guards to show and compare, but need to shrink photo size. Just switched to an iMac from the PC world and no longer have photoshop, looking for a cure....

I use DR High Beams on my '76 birds, and D'Addario Pro Steels on my '11 short scale bird.

I use Dean Markley Blue Steel Lights on all my basses and once I put them on the Tbird, it just woke it up. Super bright punchy tone. I love it.

I finally got my Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV at Guitar Center yesterday for $399, went home put on my strap and some Fender strap locks (going to add scuba diving weight to correct neck dive) and started fooling around a little with it to test her out. This bass is better than I expected, feels just right, sounds great and looks really nice in the natural oil...neck is smooth as silk.
The best thing about it? The Gibson price increase went into effect almost everyplace...$499 at Guitar Center when I checked their site later in the afternoon. Looks like Zzounds is the only place who didn't up their price yet.

To shrink the picture on the Mac is super easy...

Just open the picture with Preview - you can do all sort of edits really easy: resize, rotate, adjust colors and changing format is done faster than on Photoshop.

That was much better...

The all-black look is really nice - now you only need to change the nut to black as well...

Preview is really a very underrated piece of software which is able to do a lot of basic editing stuff without the bloat of the Adobe programs...

In day to day use I use it as my primary picture editing program and PDF reader and have completely removed Adobe stuff (except Flash Player) from my Mac, and it has never run more smoothly.

For more advanced picture editing I recommend using either GraphicConverter or Pixelmator, which comes really close to Photoshop in many regards and has a really nice user interface and can create stunning effects (you can find it in the AppStore)...
