Thunderbird Club

I just checked the WD site, it does say their guards only fit 63-66 Thunderbirds. Not a lot of us need one of those, especially without the 'bird on it.

I thought Gibson marketed the new TBirds as reissues?? Why would anyone replace a gard' on a vintage/ collectable instrument?? If I knew it was going to be such a pain, I probably would have just kept the original gard'.

Those old PGs do get brittle and it's common to see the tips broken, like various production 7enders, Thunderbirds have used different dimensions for various components thru the years - Especially PGs.

Thanks! ThunderBuckers.

Figures... ;)

Have you tried the original PU's modded to passive?

I have a Pro-V which I've been considering to turn passive for a while - although so far I've kept it stock, in hope someone would trade me a Pro-IV for my Pro-V - Both are pretty rare in Denmark, since they weren't available in the stores here.

I remember seeing that on Ebay a little while back - Apart from being stripped from hardware, did you have to fix anything on it?

Their stuff often seem to need some TLC from an experienced luthier.

The neck has a backbow, I haven't done anything about it yet.

Hey thunderbird fanatics! Just wanted to chime in and tell you of my news. I made a trade yesterday and acquired an epiphone pro IV! It's in he transparent black. Wow! What tone! So different than my Gibsons. It's gonna be fun to play. I'd show a picture, but I don't know how to adjust the settings to make the size smaller to post! Any help would be appreciated! I want to post pics of my tbirds!!!

That's awesome! Can't wait to see the pics! BTW, if the pics are on a smartphone just get the Tapatalk app and you can post right from your phone with pics and select the size as you post.

I took about a 15 year break in playing, and since I have time again and I've begun getting over being sick of dealing with guitar players, I took up bass again just a few weeks ago. Well, the damn bug bit hard, and that Thunderbird I didn't buy back in the day when I was young a dumb decided to enamor me to the point of having to buy this to scratch the itch:

It needs some elbow grease, but I have begun to formulate a plan: I think I'm gonna get rid of the stock pick guard; they all have the same cross and it's kinda...commercial or something. Can't quite put my finger on it. That's probably gonna be some form of black, and I'll swap the knobs for domes and maybe change the truss rod cover to something flat black too to match the pick guard. It'll be my B2 Stealthbird. I won't have it in hand till about Tuesday or so. I'll post pics again when I get it cleaned up and Stealthified.

I gotta go to bed. I've read the entire thread (the previous 52 pages as well)to this point. That took a minute, it's 4:30 a.m., and I'm a little tired. Thank God I don't work tomorrow...er...this morning.

I saw that listing as well... It seems that the PO used to have 2 huge round stickers on it, since it's still flat black where they used to be.

If you want the entire bass to get back to the origianl flat black finish, you can do that with some very fine coarsed steel wool pads.

As you can see black dome knobs will looks just fine on this bass.
