Just saw Queensryche a little over a month ago, still tight as ever. Eddie always has his Mike Lull 5 string bass.

There were quite a few platinum records in Mike's old shop (for his work with the associated artists), including Queensryche, not too big a surprise since they were a Bellevue, WA. band. Just before Mindcrime came out I spent a drunken evening at a Bellvue Denny's with some friends including Degarmo and Tate, they had some great funny stories and were both nice guys.

The owner/engineer/producer, Brian McTear is a long time friend. We recorded 1 song as kind of an "art project" if you will. We did not really rehearse the tune, did not have a structure per say and had not really worked out any details. Brian gave his feedback about how he thought things should go and unless it was sounding wrong we used most of his suggestions.
Started recording around 1 PM and fished, mixing included, by about 8 PM. If I can get a copy to sound cloud I will link it.

Ok, I think this will work. Bit noisy in the beginning but then it settles in...

Glad to hear Tate was cool. I am pretty upset about the way they broke up. Such a waste.

Just got a call from my Sweetwater rep that the 2018 Thunderbirds are available for preorder, though he's seen nothing yet on left-handed models. Assuming they're just like we saw on the page right now, if left-handed models will even be made, I'm not really interested.

Heck, life is a stereotype these days. It's unfortunately becoming increasingly impossible to not be pigeonholed into one camp or another. So I guess if you're a good natured yet ostentatious professor wear it like a badge, life could be worse.

I wasn't offended. I was goof'n on your comment. I have plenty of colleagues, who fit the stereotype that you were alluding to there. And maybe I am a tad sensitive to stereotyping of my profession these days, as we are too often painted as out-of-touch leftist slackers, who are imposing our "evil" liberal agenda and producing "snowflake" students.

You like that? I find that color awful. I would've been extremely tempted if it had been the heritage cherry like the SGs.

I think I do. Ha. I mean, I love the heritage cherry too, but that solid red reminds me of my first "real" bass back in 1991 (a candy apple red Fender Jazz).

You'd be in a pretty exclusive club with that TBird, Pete. They're not going to make a lot of those... nor sell a lot at that price.

Saturday night. We do a couple of freebies a year for disabled young people at a local sports club.
I decided to break out the Vee.
First time I have gigged it in over 35 years. I may get some more shots.

Kind of a let down after Epiphone went all old school with the chrome. I was hoping Gibson would do the same. These appear to be the same TB+ pickups that have been around since the nineties. Based on the T-bird, I'm guessing there won't be any vintage reproduction electronics in the RD either. The bright cherry is a nice change of pace from the black and burst that are forthcoming.

Gibson does not seem interested in re-claiming its rock heritage with modern Thunderbirds. To your point, a 2018 Thunderbird seems aimed at primarily someone who digs 80's/90's hair metal.

Not being a fan of genre, I too stayed away from Thunderbirds for a long time. It feels like they are long overdue for a refresh and a price drop.....

Truth. However, if it's like the last run, they hit at this price, then 12 months from now, the few that Guitar Center have go on super clearance and you walk out with one for a reasonable cool grand.
