That was an incredible experience for my kids! Bryan is as cool as any man could be and gave my kids his undivided attention and direction and I'm super grateful! He introduced my nine year old to the bassist drummer relationship and it was awesome watching them work together. Wolfkeller(Bryan) I am forever grateful! Fun fun fun! This is the most awesome experience for my kids, thank you thank you thank you!

...and if I had thought about doing this prior to leaving for work this morning, GOT59, I'd have brought one of my Tbird cases.

Now I need to sell my TV Silver. I never felt a connection with it and that's why all the factory plastic is still on it. Never changed the strings and just plugged it in once... or I might keep it Factory New.

I'm immediately bonded to this Classic Pro! It feels just like my TBIV-VS.

Awesome!

Congrats on your new Classic Pro - that bass had to be yours!

It's such a great bass, for very little money and it sure looks good on the wall next to your VS

Keep it!

You can never have enough birds in your birdcage...

Fellow danish brethren(well that's my heritage, anyway) I'm heading over to Europe in September this year to suss out the music scene, can you give me any tips on locations to meet people/start a band. Australia is as dry as tonight's whiskey bottle when it comes to flourishing art/music scene...

Seems like we have more in common than our Danish heritage and taste in basses - we even share the same first name! :)

To be honest I really don't know what tip to give you on locations to meet people/start a band.... My best bet would be in local classifieds or local musicstore billboards in whichever city/country you plan to visit.

I play within the electronic/industrial scene which is VERY small here in Denmark, with not that many bands or venues around.

So the only way to go is to help each other out and occasionally arrange your own shows.

FaceBook is pretty good for promoting your own shows.

Also most of the bands I know in my scene seems to be formed by people who were friends already, with little or no prior music experience.

In the past, when playing other genres, I used to watch the classifieds and find bands/band members this way.

Where exactly in Europe are you visiting?

Cool! Thanks for the help I am keen to get over there. I will be staying in London for a good amount of time, kind of as a home base, want to check out Berlin and Frankfurt as I hear they have a very healthy music/art scene. But I'm gonna do more research and of course go with the flow. Cash is my only restraint. I intend to just bring one bass over, I would bring my thunderbird but it might be a rough trip....so I'm gonna put some thunderbuckers in my jazz bass to kind of meet halfway. Unless I can't stand the thought of not having my bird with me....we will see I suppose.

That sounds pretty cool - London, Berlin and Frankfurt are definitely places where there is something going on... Also Hamburg is a pretty nice city with lots of music happening.

It's been ages since my last trip to the UK, but I think Denmark Street is the place to go shopping musical instruments:

Hopefully some of our UK members can chime in on this...

... other than the added pu, knob and pg that is.

Mine's a '64, GIO. One of the unbroken few and without the added strap button on the horn so many have.

Here's a '64 from Ebay maybe 8 years ago. (wish I'd bought it , went for around $4k)

and mine which is faded.

The original name for Gibson's color was 'Tobacco Sunburst', fading from gold to reddish to dark brown. Different painters using different batches of transparent toner and technique got different results. By the time of the NRs Gibson was consistently using a brown toner instead of the purplish black they used earlier.

I mixed up some early style toner for this Honduras mahogany ExplorerBird. It's a golden color wood naturally that quickly goes to red with a slight amount of toner, then to almost black if you shoot enough. I call this 'Sunrise Sunburst', fairly light toner coat.

Gibson uses different wood today. It's brown to start with so you can't get a true tobacco sunburst from it.

Not seeing many gen1 T-birds in person these days, it's remarkable how different the colors are in the same year. Mine as you can fits the Tobacco Burst distinction fairly accurately, and my (stolen) '63 looked the same. Little or no magenta or red hint and the dark halo is minimal and not especially black - more a dark (tobacco stain) brown. I used mine a lot in smoky Chicago blues bars the first number of years I owned it.., but that probably had more affect on me than the bass! ;)

The magenta hinted explorer-style bass of yours looks great with that colour scheme.

Man, totally cool evening, thanks for having us out! It is always a pleasure to o hand and jam, always teach the younglings a thing or two! Its only rock and roll...and a killer custom pickguard!

Looks like you guys had a great day... :)

I wonder why I was under the impression, you were from "down under"...? :)
