Thunderbird Club

One thing I should never be asked about is pedals. My EHX Cock Fight came in a day early, so I’ve been messing around with that. No idea how to integrate it into anything I’m working on currently, but could be ok for recording. Still need to spend some time with it, but also not sure why I’m even going down this rabbit hole!
I'm sure there there's at least one 'EHEM' somewhere in there :roflmao:

This is what the 80's could have been. Love this album.

Amazing record! I remember when I was playing in the ‘80’s I was convinced they’d be looked back upon as the ‘dark ages’ of recording, mostly because of all the dopey pop records. Glad I was wrong! So many great bands that still hold up for me.
Pixies and Replacements come quickly to mind.

I totally believe it. My 12 y/o is a great(so I’m told) hard rock and metal drummer. I think he’s pretty good for his age. You can see him doing his thing on drums in this video and that’s my other son on the right rockin’ the SG.

I’ve got a spreadsheet.

Just kidding... I’ve got a decent memory for stuff I care about, Michael.

I liked the spreadsheet part... Very methodical

Your boys are doing pretty good in that video - No wonder you’re proud of them! :)

Two more fav bands of mine, yeah, we're "the other long lost twins".

Seems so :) Though you looked much cooler in the 80’s than I did, as this recent pic of a tv interview I did in the 80’s will attest. I’m in the middle :/

A 500W (into 4 Ω) class D head would see you right, and you will be able to pick one up for cheap.

Cabs are also available cheap as all the old codgers sell off their perfectly good kit in the quest for ever smaller/lighter 408 or 405 speakery. Cabs tend to be 8Ω, therefore you only get about 350W out of these '500W' amps. The most important thing to bear in mind is speaker diameter does not equal frequency response -- a 10 can have more bottom end than a 15, but the 15, by virtue of the conical volume, excursion etc will move more air.

I have a thing for 212s, so you should deffo go for one.

210s are popular, but they can lack heft, so you ideally you would get 2 x 210.

Or ... you could buck the trend and start with a 115, then another if you need more/want your full 500W.

Watts are a funny thing... Nowadays people talk about amps that are between 500W - 1000W being the norm, and anything lower than 500W not being enough etc...

My last rig (full stack Marshall 100W SuperBass with two 412 cabs) was deafeningly loud and way overpowered for the gigs I used to do back then.

And would still kill a lot of what's out there today.

Had a nice visit with the at The Bass Shop | Selected Used and Vintage Bass Guitars this morning, it's not at far from where I live but there's just no quick way to get there, anywho.........

Basses, there's lots of them, but not too many Gibsons just now.

Quite honestly, these 3 made the drive in Seattle traffic worth the trip.

Jeff Rouse with my Epi.
Turns out he's looking for a black '76, so let's keep an eye out!

I'm doubtful that I'd own, but the Dingwall proved to be quite interesting, I'd never played a fan fretted bass, it was quite comfy and felt very natural. The craftsmanship is simply amazing, I was a bit nervous handling it. The body contours are just beautiful.

If you look at the lower right you'll see a faint contour line that runs at an angle to the upper left, subtle beauty. I played it for a while, nice, modern tone, maybe not what you'd expect from a 'Bird, but certainly very good.

Oh Crikey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the RB amps are bulletproof. The 700/1001 are probably more than shell ever need. That's why I say 400rb, small, light, killer sound, great power and cheap
I'd rather have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it;)

... plus... as an example... one of my local stores just sold a 1001RB in really good condition, for 375bux! With deals like that to be had... I mean... why not:thumbsup:

That is a stunning looking bass! I'm with you, I'd probably never own one... unless I won the lottery. But I was curious as to what a diehard Thunderbird person would think of it. Thanks! And I'm pleasantly surprised with your take on it!

Get out of bed, walk into the bathroom. The cat tray is pushed out into the middle of the floor -- it's like some alien intelligence is trying to communicate with me. What is it trying to say?
It is saying watch where you step. Aliens are not known for subtlety.

@MommyPlaysBass -- @wolfkeller's DI/ampless suggestion is a good one and having that sort of setup for use with supplied backline/direct to PA/backup is really useful.

Bear in mind that a good preamp/di will cost as much as a secondhand class D head. It's a good idea to give them a proper try out first. For example, there's a very highly regarded SVT emulator which I could not get a good tone out of with my Birds and has found a new home somewhere else.

It has to be said though, nothing beats plugging in, turning up and making the room shake through a nice head and a meaty cabinet ...

+1 on this, Get the best you can for the dollars you have, it'll pay off in the long run. And try before you buy, If possible.
Funny, with GK, I’ve never heard one I didn’t like, so I’m fine buying sight-unseen, just depending on my power needs.

You know, whenever we go into the bathroom we do check for cat jobbies, or if we hear them in there (Korats have a tendency to let everyone know before they take a dump -- the 'sh!t siren') ... but it is amusing that they like to remove any doubt.
Also funny that our cat will actually sometimes make me come with her and essentially keep guard while she’s in there.
