I think it's great that they're innovating & evolving... it just seems like an risky way of doing it. To discontinue the thing that put them on the map, before the new stuff is tested and proven in the marketplace... that's a pretty big matso ball to be hangin' out there! On the upshot... I'm guessing the used market will have a surge when a bunch people sell off their RBs for the new stuff

They can always reissue em a couple years down the line and clean up if people are missing em bad enough :)

That sounds pretty reasonable to me! RB’s have a weird tendency to last a very long time. GK did too good of a job on them :)

I will say in my circle of friends and working players around here, MB’s outnumber RB’s by a pretty huge margin. But a lot of guys around here might play two or three gigs in a day at different spots around town. Factoring in traffic and parking, it’s no shock they’re gonna want as few trips from the car to the venue as possible. I also think about players in large cities who use public transportation. We have a larger amount of truly great gear to choose from now than at any point in history. It’s a good time for bass players.
PJB has some really innovative stuff for scenarios like that too. Ultra compact, super high power, weird speaker sizes and configurations. Having never experienced one in person, I can't speak to their sound... but they present themselves well. I believe if I were a big city, public transportation kinda guy... that's something I'd hafta look into...

A few too many significant digits for me. Rent and food... I know, I know. My priorities are kinda skewed. Nice bass though, and it's in the same state I'm in. Hrmmm.... wish I could.

For sure...I couldn’t afford it right now either. I’m in the process of modding one of my Gibson’s in a very similar fashion to that one and though I got a crazy good deal on my bass, it’s gonna cost a lot more than this guy is asking after what I spent on the parts to do the mod.

Kinda surprised someone hasn’t snapped this up yet...
For Sale - 2013 Gibson Thunderbird ( Ugraded ) Price Drop ,175
Chromed out with a set of ‘66’s and a nice price drop

That's Tom's old bass. He used to frequent this thread quite a bit and when he started gigging more after his divorce he sold his TBird and went to playing his Fender. Really nice guy, super talented too. I sold him the two TBirds that he layered on his PG to look like shadowing. Pretty cool idea and definitely a very nice bass.

It'll be worth it. :thumbsup::)

I’m not bumming, that’s for sure :)

Haha, I use big amps, drive a suburban and have a few Tats

Funny, when I was a kid people were buying GK RB’s because of how small and light they were. Kinda the micro back when they came out

Today's Suburban is not what it used to be...when it was an actual truck.

Yeah, I remember a buddy buying a first gen because they were cheap, early 70s. 'Toy' was the verdict.

It's still a truck. Same frame, same suspension offerings, same drive train offerings, same interiors, same "just about" everything including most of the sheet metal(my world as a GM die guy).

Now where I'd agree with you is that a new truck is no longer like the old trucks and that a new SUV is no longer like the old SUV's. They're so much better now in every possible way. A 200,000+ mile lifespan is quite common and some folks can even squeeze out 300,000+ and they're so much more comfortable and reliable.

I'm just about to hit 100,000 on my Silverado Crew Cab and 90,000 miles on my Escalade.

In 190,000 miles, the only thing that I've had to replace has been a burned out headlight bulb on my Silverado. One bulb between the two vehicles, not exaggerating.

I'd never want to go back to "what it used to be".
