You know, I’ve not really considered getting another one. My current rig has me 100% GAS free and I’ll never want another bass again

(Leaning toward black)
Right. You've now got a pickup in search of a bass.

Cats on Roombas are one of the best things ever. The shark suit just takes it to another level. And the duck.

No, never read any. I tend to like biographies these days.
Check it out. Those two are based on Shakespeare.

Started another remote session last night. Usually I play along with a track using a few different basses to see which one sits in the track best. Last night I went straight for the Cataldo with the TB ‘66, because I wanted to hear it on a record...just because.
Huge shock, it sounded terrific :)

"Huge shock, it sounded terrific :)"
Now how could that have happened?

Sad, sad, sad. With this micro crap fad it's no surprise.
Just to play devils advocate for a sec. GK have been extremely successful for a very long time. Maybe the new stuff will be amazing...? Smaller, lighter class d amps have completely dominated the market for quite awhile now. Well, past the ‘fad’ stage. I’m not defending or condemning Class d, just saying. Personally, I wouldn’t play an inferior sounding amp just because it’s smaller and lighter. That doesnt mean an amp has to automatically suck because it’s small and light. I’d just be open to the possibility that GK know what they’re doing and are bringing out awesome new gear. If their new stuff sucks, you can quickly snap up enough rb’s to last a lifetime for very little dough and you’re all set.

It's kinda hard to imagine sales being down on the RBs. That's been their bedrock. THAT is where "the GK sound" came from. I would estimate that's what like 80 - 85% of GK owners have (based on personal encounters, and what I read online). The only thing I can think of that could explain a downward trend in sales, would be that the amps are too reliable & long lasting, so between a plentiful used market, and people using their amps for 20 years or more, they're not selling a lotta new ones. I have nothing to back that up. It's just an uneducated guess....

Id say few are buying new ones. Alot available used and they don't really break. I just bought 2 used 700rbs for $300 each as opposed around $700 new. That and so many selling their old heads for micros.

I think it's great that they're innovating & evolving... it just seems like an risky way of doing it. To discontinue the thing that put them on the map, before the new stuff is tested and proven in the marketplace... that's a pretty big matso ball to be hangin' out there! On the upshot... I'm guessing the used market will have a surge when a bunch people sell off their RBs for the new stuff

That sounds pretty reasonable to me! RB’s have a weird tendency to last a very long time. GK did too good of a job on them :)

I will say in my circle of friends and working players around here, MB’s outnumber RB’s by a pretty huge margin. But a lot of guys around here might play two or three gigs in a day at different spots around town. Factoring in traffic and parking, it’s no shock they’re gonna want as few trips from the car to the venue as possible. I also think about players in large cities who use public transportation. We have a larger amount of truly great gear to choose from now than at any point in history. It’s a good time for bass players.
