One thing to take into consideration, that article is 6.5 years old, so the prices probably went up considerably on most, if not all those basses.

Cool article nonetheless.

Yeah, the prices are obviously a bit out of date, but I enjoyed the read. Even then, they were out of my price range

No kidding! Even a time machine back to the date of the article wouldn't help. Maybe 35 years to when nobody wanted Gibson anything except Les Pauls. That's when I got the EB-2. It wouldn't be an option these days.

Found some cool self adhesive glitter foam.

Wondering...how many ‘Bird owners also own Rics?
In this era of scooped mids, those seem like two bassses where the mids are very aggressive. A Ric 4005 is one of the coolest looking basses of all time, IMO

Don’t own one, but played around on a JetGlo 4003S at the Sydney OzBass GTG. Fell a bit in love.

If I’m ever able to shoot for a Trophy Bass - I’d consider...

I'm still going to give you credit for the magic touch and repeat the mantra "dukeofrock" every time I put in a lowball offer. You are officially a legend. Enjoy the exalted status!

Maybe replace the f with a ‘ ?
I keep seeing Duke o Frock ; which ain’t the same thing. :)

Unless he is looking for a possie at Queen Roni’s court :)

Yes saw them a few days ago. Hence the questions about cases etc.
Surprisingly, they could be attractive to us down under, if the pricing structure changed a little.
Waiting for a reply from them about how they are structuring their cost. They probably think "free shipping" is a selling point. It actually isn't if you are an Aussie on a bass at around that price point. Remember the Aussie importer appears to be cactus and none of these are on the horizon here AFAIK.
If they say, listed the bass at $699 and the rest was shipping (which it probably actually is), it would be far more attractive to someone like me who is in a country where the Epi importer is bust.
The reason is we have 15% taxes (10% GST and 5% Duty and some inspection fees) on imports where the cost of the item goes over $AU 1K and the shipping isn't added in unless you go over the $AU 1 K threshold. The Duty is supposed to be exempt on solid body basses, but I seem to get charged anyway on a different technicality each time I bring a bass in.
Means I would save about $200 on the bass and they get the same money.

I may buy one of these anyway.

After several messages back and forth we had agreement, but then a message that they only had sunburst left. :banghead:

But you gotta admit, they’re cool looking!

Want rarer still, go all out on a double bound

The 4005 Ric is the only shape they have that appeals to me, and the Cheyenne is the only sound they have that appeals to me. Well I guess the fact that they don't have tort also appeals to me. :D
Just haven't ever been able to get past the "designed by a mechanical engineering committee" look of the bread and butter Ric basses. :rollno:

I had the pleasure of playing bass for Zach Ryan’s ‘Wanderers’ debut release. Good kid with great songs!

I like that a LOT!!!! Sounds a bit like The Ravonettes (as well as some other bands of that type). I really like stuff like this.

Nice demo! They each have their own sound if you listen carefully - But overall they blend nicely in the mix, and sound pretty similar to each other - If they had the exact same new strings on them, the differences might even be harder to hear. Not surprisingly the DR BB's have a darker sound to them than the other two.

Of course it sounds darker. The strings are black!!!

Thanks! Not sure yet about the sound, but it's a very solid sound, dark and punchy down low, but not imposing like a mudbucker. Maybe that means flexible... i.e., eq-affectable... more after some quality plug in time!

You should be able to wire that Dimarzio to be in single coil or humbucking mode. That would ensure some variety of sound.
