Thunderbird Club

Ok, NOW I'm done thinking about strings and pickups for the night...same clip, except the second bass is the '02 Gibson, strung with Cobalt flats

Those cobalt flats sound almost like a set of roundwounds compared to the others! :)

So totally trying to hide stuff by only putting up 3 pics. Why isn’t there a pic of the entire headstock including the neck past a few frets? And that should be fornthe front and back as well.
Good thing I'm not actually considering that at all.

If you do - Make sure you also get to see the mini-series that came out after the series ended...

The cast and crew were very unhappy when Scy-Fy Channel cancelled the series, as it ended with cliffhanger.

Eventually they got to make the mini-series, so they could round off the series in a good way... :)
That seems to have happened with lots of shows. I've had to tell people with Battlestar Galactica to make sure to watch the mini-series first, THEN the actual series.

The Cobalts were brand spankin new when I recorded that...didn’t warm up, or play on em at all...straight to recording, so yeah, pretty bright for flats. Played a gig with em last night. They’re a very different kind of string, for sure

@dukeorock - great sound clips! Just got a chance to run them through my GK 210 practice rig. Surprising how similar the first two sound. All three sound great but the third (with the BB strings) is noticeably more laid back in the mix and slightly more mid focused where as the other two seem to have a broader tone with more top and slightly more bottom end (at least to my ears).

With that in mind I would think the Cataldo and older bird would be perfect for songs where you want the bassline to stand out a bit more, the BB strung bird may be a better fit for a more supportive background and less flash role.

Here's my golden standard for a very forward bassline. Keep in mind this is a David Gilmour song, which means people typically tune into it to hear David (not the bass player). The first time I heard it my initial thought was the bass is walking all over Gilmour, I'm surprised he let that happen - but I like it.

Would love to hear the Cataldo or your early bird on this song.

Do people come up to you after shows to talk about your Thunderbird? I’m in Austin, TX and I was just curious if it was the same across the country.

I get it all- musicians who talk about the sound and look, women comment on the guitar’s style and they’ve never seen one before, and probably most common is musicians that have, once had, or want one and ask questions.

What kind of comments do you get? Honestly, in the 15 months or so that I’ve had mine, I really think that I’ve had comments after every show. Didn’t get that once with the old retired Ibanez.

It happens, although not that frequently... I've had people coming up to me to tell me that my Goth looks like a weapon of mass destruction, which I kinda agree with. :)
