I’ve got a new set of Chromes as well as Cobalt flats sitting around...thinking of which I want to try next :)

Because of the recommendations of so many here, I’ll be trying these Cobalts. I’ve been a Chromes guy for most of my time playing bass, 4-5 years.

I just need to find the time to slap them on and spend some time with them. I’m currently playing tennis a minimum of 3 nights a week, more when I get a challenger looking for an additional match.

Lately when I have time to play bass, it’s awesome to just go over stuff I like to play so giving up that time to experiment with new strings is tough but I’ll do it soon.

Not that my opinion is all that valuable but I’ll share my thoughts on how they feel and sound compared to the Chromes I’m so used to.

I certainly want to know what you think Larry, Because i personally love them on a Bird.

I'm currently building a MAX52, raised center, tilt reverse 4 +1 headstock, twin Aggie soaps / OBP-3TKPP 3-Band preamp. Black hardware. It's probably as close as I'm going to get to 'modern'...that and minimal upper fret access/full neck dive.

Had to 'correct' your post to keep the rumours going, don't want to let anyone else know. They aren't ready for the awesome yet...

Decided to do some direct clips for the heck of it. I played along to a prerecorded Prayer Flags track, but favored the bass pretty heavily. All Three basses went through the Reiner 6SL7 tube pre, straight into Logic. No EQ, No Compression...I explain which is which on the sound File

I finally had a chance to listen with semi-decent speakers. Not headphones. The differences are subtle but they are there. The '02 and '14 sound the most different. The Thunderbucker '63 sounds more like the '02 than the '14. Strings maybe? Anyway, I thought the Thunderbucker had the most open black in its sound. Lots of blue-black with electric white. The '02 had more white in the sound, and it was a little papery. Maybe the dead strings? The '14 had more red in the sound. All three have lots of black and blue-black. It's the edges that are different. They all sound like they mean it, and there's no way to say which one is best.

Don't like the tone, move your playing position around, mix the P/Ups with volume pots, fiddle with the tone pot... lots of options.

Blame the wood tell the guitarist to turn down, hire a drummer, and avoid carrots. :roflmao::facepalm:

Don't be ridiculous! I would look silly in your bike helmet:p

Would you need the helmet for that? I bet you can look silly without it!:wacky::cool:

Subtle, but really they all sound good - to my ears!

I couldn’t agree...more? Ha! I like the color stuff. The ‘63 does sound the most open to me as well
