That whole decade wasn't their best moment.

Oh, Man! If Only that was a 90!I understand why you and Scott earlier in the day and many others would believe this but I don't agree.
You may find some idiot to pay you an exorbitant amount for an item you're selling but that doesn't mean that that item now has that worth.
ex. If I get you to pay me $20,000 for a 1981 Chevette, does that mean that '81 Chevettes are now worth $20,000 or does it mean you're a dummy?

I meant 80 . I looked at the 8 and hit 9-my badThat certainly would be a rare year...
since the model ended production in '87.![]()
If I was ridiculously wealthy, I'd put up 65 grand for Felix's Thunderbird. The seller's a cool guy and I don't begrudge him asking whatever he wants for that particular bass.
Don't get me started on Chevettes! Chevettes and Busch beer carried me through my "formative" yearsI understand why you and Scott earlier in the day and many others would believe this but I don't agree.

...or said another more accurate way - If I get you to pay me $20,000 for a 1981 Chevette that was originally sold to or at some time owned by the lead singer from Head East does it mean all his previously owned cars are worth $20,000 or does it mean you're a dummy?I understand why you and Scott earlier in the day and many others would believe this but I don't agree.

Great example- Love that song(still wouldn't want the Chevette-drove one once. Scared the doo-doo outta me)...or said another more accurate way - If I get you to pay me $20,000 for a 1981 Chevette that was originally sold to or at some time owned by the lead singer from Head East does it mean all his previously owned cars are worth $20,000 or does it mean you're a dummy?
Answer: no, his other cars aren't necessarily worth the same; and yes, you're a dummy for buying it at that price.
The going market rate for a similar 1981 Chevette determines the actual value of the car, then the premium over that rate for the celebrity status gets tacked on. Head East was a great band with one great song, that fact dictates a relatively low premium vs an Elvis Presley or Beatles or Johny Cash owned Chevette. So if the market rate for a 1981 Chevette is let's say $2000, a Head East owner might warrant a premium of another $1000 if there's adequate provenance and maybe a back story (i.e. Owning this car inspired the song "Never Been Any Reason" because it was such a poorly built car). Then I'd give you $3000 for it.

LOL - you got your choice - become Road kill because your car decided to fall apart at 65mph or become a crispy critter because your car decided to spontaneously ignite. I'll pass on both.Worse than a Pinto?
Saw a Pinto with a "FLAMMABLE" bumper sticker. Hadda pull over 'til I could see again.Worse than a Pinto?

My last Chevette was a 4 cylinder, 4 speed, brown 2-door. The driver's side floorboard was completely rusted away. The right rear seat bolt was anchored to it, but the other 3 were gone. The seat was held in place by an intricate series of coat hangers. The muffler was a coffee can with some steel wool in it. The hood ornament was a rubber ducky held in place with super glue. This was probably the funnest car I ever had! I could bark the tires into second, take corners on 2 wheels, and sound like a pissed off 400 pound bumble bee doin' it! Used to go bouncin' around out in the woods & across corn fields in it! YEEEEHAAAAAAWWW!!!LOL - you got your choice - become Road kill because your car decided to fall apart at 65mph or become a crispy critter because your car decided to spontaneously ignite. I contacted him out of the blue once and he was very courteous and nice enough to answer my questions about how Felix modded his EB-1. I never had any business dealings with him so I could see how that might shape ones opinions toward him. He's played with a few notable people and I admire his talent.I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on the cool guy part. He can certainly sell for whatever he wants, but his stuff has been talked about in various Sunn groups, and when I stated his equipment was overpriced for what it was, and some of his ads were a bit misleading (regarding the rarity of Sunn pieces and the pricing reflecting this), he joined to give a rant about how I was wrong and didn't know what I was talking about. I think the piece in question was a early 2000s he had listed for $3000 because it was the only one he'd ever seen with a Dynaco transformer and no bass boost, while I've seen a fair number of them in far less time collecting gear for prices half that. He has great taste in gear though, I'll give him that, and more power to him for having the cash to buy all that gear. It's just in a fairly small market (Sunn), it's a little annoying to see people try to pump the prices up like that.

Wutnaheck is it?
There are many reasons. I'll use a Hendrix-owned guitar as an example. Some people would want it, simply because it would be "cool" (if you don't feel that way... I'm not sure it could be explained to you). Some people would want it strictly as a financial investment. Some may want it for sentimental reasons (i.e. their favorite song was written or recorded with it). As for me... the idea that Hendrix bled and sweated on it while honing his craft and writing his songs, is more than adequate reasoning. I also like to imagine the stories a piece like that could tell. Serious mojo factor! It's sad and wrong that so many pieces like that, wind up in the hands of non-musician investors, who can't even tap in to what it is that makes the piece special.
Item's like this are worth whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay. There's only one good way to find out what that number is...
All i can say is that, this has been an interesting read so far. Hell, i don't even make 65K a year, let alone if i did have the dough, i could think of a better way to spend it.
Not knocking the person who would pay for it in anyway, just, the whole thing seems outrageous to me.
