That comes as quite a surprise to me. SGs are usually on the lighter side of the scale

10 pounds doesnt seem like much but maybe because the body is so short all the weight was distributed to just one area instead of being spread out. None of my basses sat that heavy on the shoulder, very irritating after awhile, pissed off even. The tapered neck I so despise also factored into me trading it away.

• Finger marks removed, strap locks installed and tuned up.
• Yes, those are the stock strings - can tell by the Epiphone installation - exactly one wrap around the post...
• The action is kind of high - just like they have them in the store because you know a wanker is going to come through and play the slappity - poppity song (there is only one song that these guys play right?). So, it was never taken in for the free set up either.
• The neck looks good. Plays nicely (except for the high action).
• It is heavier than the JC, but lighter than the TBird classic pro, so a very reasonable weight (I don't weigh my basses, but I do have a sense of relative weights).
• But it is neck heavy - more so than anything else I own (including the JC which is hollow!).

I don't think I will care about the neck dive. I expect I will put a Hipshot bridge on it and string it BEAD.

Nice! The Eppi EBO's I've picked up have all been thicker and heavier than my 60's EBO, but that EB3 looks a lot like an old one. Just measured my EBO at 33.5mm (1.32"). How thick is that EB3?

I loved my Ebony EB3 so much I ran the SG & EB Club. I traded mine thinking that I might get another one some day but I sure dont miss the neck dive and the weight of that bass cut into my shoulder something nasty after a 1 hour jam session, the nasty began about 20 minutes in. Awesome deep tone especially with the Dimarzio model 1. Huge sound improvement overall with added Tort.

Well it looked cool! But yeah if it hurts that takes the fun out of it...

My 67 EBO is 6lbs 10oz. Even accounting for the PU & controls, that's a big difference!

That head probably doesn't weigh 90lbs though?

Around 35 I think, but the Peavey TKO was 85. I only lifted it up that high once, almost folded my spine.

I really dont know what to say, I never talked about it over at the club as I just thought all of them were within the same weight category. Just a tad under 10 pounds to be fair, made in china long scale.

@Engle . I wonder if there is a discrepancy in materials used, after all my Epiphone EB3 was made in China. Had I thought about this when I owned mine I could have had the Club members weigh theirs to make comparisons.

Nice! The Eppi EBO's I've picked up have all been thicker and heavier than my 60's EBO, but that EB3 looks a lot like an old one. Just measured my EBO at 33.5mm (1.32"). How thick is that EB3?

The body is thick - 1.5".

The nut is 1.5" whereas the current ones are 1.65"

The neck is 1" at the 12th fret.

Funny thing is that my EB-2 is heavy. I haven't weighed it, but it feels heavier than a Gibson Thunderbird. Not as heavy as either Epi. It's hollow, with a big center block. I don't know what the center block is made of, but it sure isn't balsa.
