Is there any way you can record a few bass lines withe the tapewound TBird? Im really curious about that type of strings, but Im not spending that much without being sure how they sound on a Bird. Ill get them for my future fretless bass though, but I already have an idea of how they're gonna sound on it.
I don't have an interface to record with right now. Have to see if i can dig anything up.

2 Weeks ago my pro fell down cleaning it from rehearsal sweat. I kinda caught it midair, but it hit the desk somewhere and had a bad chip exactly where I rest my right arm.

So I brought it to a luthier and he told me he won't mess with polyurethene finishes, as he thought he could not repair the spot to my satisfactions. So I asked him to simply seal it so sweat doesn't get through.

Next week we've done some recordings for our demo at the BL's home and his dog pee'd on the classic(judging from my history I guess animals like to pee on my gear..). Completely disassembled it on the spot, cleaned it and reassembled it. As I wasn't that sober it took me 3 hours and couldn't record anything that day.

Back at home I took it apart a second time and put on some guitar cleaner/wax combo. Doesn't smell, so no problems.

Pro comes back next week.

In the meantime I left my original band for good - right before we were about to record a video - for personal reasons(huge fall out with BL and leadsinger who's been my best friend for 25 years).

BL of the second project asked me if he could compensate for it by writing songs more leaning to my influences so I brought him some records I love (ace of spades, hair of the dog, Aerosmith rocks, et al) the result was us writing a ballad.

Pretty busy times.

In the meantime I found out that I didn't correctly plug the eq board to the power stage on my ashdown after refurbishing and that's why it didn't run well.

Still trying to find out which amp to buy, though. I narrowed it down to a GK MB 500 fusion or an ampeg PF 500 or 800 just by soundbits and reviews.

Could try out the MB 500 fusion at a local store, but the "only" provide an orange 212 cab there to check out stuff. The PF would be an internet purchase to check it out during the tryout period thomann offers.

PS: About a topic few pages ago, I only play with fingers. Picked up a pick to play some Thin Lizzy. I simply feel uncomfortable with it. BL from my current project put it like this: I'm making love to my bass - raw. Pick is like a rubber.

I decided to try some Chromes on my Tbird.Still somewhat mixed about them on there.Had to adjust my bridge a little after I put them on to lower the action. They seem to have a lot of tension on the neck.Don't know if that will cause any problems down the line.Any body got any experience with that? They sound good but that's my only worry.Still gotta play'em some more to finally determine if they will stay or not.If I do pull them off I think I'll get a set of Black Beauties and put on.Already got Cool Blues on the Goth and I know I like those.

Off-Beat, is there a budget or certain parameters you want to stay within with this new amp? Are you gonna need some grind to the sound? Both of my heads are older, big and heavy, but have that monstrous sound one expects from a Thunderbird/Ampeg SVT-3 Pro/GK800RB through a pair of 410's combination. what are you trying to get with this new head?

I want grind if needed be but change to clean on the spot, price range should be about 1500€ with the cab - don't have that much budget. I though about getting a 212 or 210 aslong as we're small and upgrading with a 410 and stack them if we play on bigger stages later on.

The 2 channels of the MB are pretty enticing to me and the tube pre amp simply raised my interest.

Atm we're still getting material and the soonest we'll gig might be in half a year. As said I left the other band so no hurries and no worries. I got time to check out gear.

The MB's are great little heads, but the nature of a Class D amp is that they're really clean. You may be able to get the sound you want with pedals, but that's more investment of money. I got my stack used; I've got just over $500 in the whole thing...well, minus another $249 in my backup head. Don't rule out going with used gear; you may get more mileage that way.

It's a pain in the ass to get the used gear you're looking for here. Maybe from german ebay, but rarely they've got stuff I specifically look for. I usually look into a local flea market site, but offerings are limited.

That's a shame. You should move here There's tons of good gear available for reasonable prices. :D

Yeah, always dreamed of living in CA. I hate winters. Would make aquiring gear easier, too. They put on 200€ on anything here compared to US prices. And the used market is huge judging from what I've seen in us ebay.

Damn, looking into willhaben, which is the local site, there's a 1001 rb head for 290€. To bad finances are tight atm, but maybe I can borrow it from someone.
