I just don't understand the extender. I understand wanting to have the low D, but I don't understand why you want an extender to get there. It makes more sense to me to have your bass tuned BEAD. And for those that want EADG too, well, have two basses - because you always need another.. Or, you could even go with a 5 string...
There are lots of things I don't understand, so I will get over it. But if someone can explain what I am missing, I would be at least modestly appreciative.
It depends what kind of gigs you play.
Playing heavy originals I have played basses in DGCF, or C#F#BE
I used to bring 3 basses to gigs every time.
But in my cover band I play everything in EADG. This helps me and the guitarist because we can easily see what the other is playing. Often I still bring 3 basses: Upright, JC with flats, Thunderbird with RS66s last night.
Some tunes like Sledgehammer work better with a low Eb. On that I drop the E to Eb and use chorus + octave. If it gets called, I don’t have to stop and change basses - I just flip a lever and launch
When people are dancing, it's good to keep the time between tunes to a minimum.
