Not everyones 'cup of tea'... I saw it and it's unlikely I'd watch it again, especially after seeing this trailer. More odd (if that's possible) was this totally crass and politically incorrect B-movie with Ray Miland and Rosy Greer that preceded it - I saw it in the theater when it was new and it defined bad-cinema to me.

Yep. Terrible movie except for The Incredible Bongo Band.

... and I haven't played anything since, other than my Carvin when the Thunderbird as at the luthier. And whenever I check out other basses online, nothing is ever that tempting because I just love the Thunderbird so much. It can't be topped for me.

If I were gigging a lot or recording a lot, I’d probably get a Ric and maybe a FSO. But I am quite content with Birds.

My first rig was an all octal tube PA (two 6L6s of some sort, so between 30W and 50W) into whatever speaker I could get my hands on (so no 30-50W).
Then I got an old tube tape deck, so I used it because I could crank it without frying the speakers. I think it had one 6BQ5/EL84 per channel, so just a few watts.
I was playing guitar at the time. I owned a couple of Kalamazoo 30W bass amps well before I got serious about bass, just because I'm kind of the Kalamazoo amp guy.
When I find the right rig[1] at the right (low) price, I'll get one, just in case I get a chance to use it. The Kal isn't that great, but it works for practice, and at church I go through a SansAmp DI (the head sound guy hates amps on stage).

Some days he plays guitar. When he does, his amp is in an isolation box in a closet.

Normal gig, I’d insist on an amp.

Or age and willingness to schlep that stuff. I keep my 50 y/o Kasino 'cos no one would want it and IF I should need something large, I already have it.

I've ran into this a couple of times with sound-guys that have been around awhile in clubs... they add effects (reverb, delay) on the fly to the music while we're playing, like a DJ. -!- I really didn't appreciate it but didn't want to rock the boat over a minor gig.

Yep. As someone else said it seems a different bass in the photos.

The only thing I can add is half question / half comment. Wasn’t Walnut the name of a colour / finish Gibson used a few years ago ? I’m expecting that is what they are referring to and not the wood used.

I still schlep a 360 when it's not overkill beyond overkill. Actually, it's always that, but I still schlep it because I like it when there's enough room that it won't Oesterize too many innards.

Just for certain styles. The Bird will always be my mainstay.
