So..... My friend and I grew up together, and we formed and have been in the same band for over 20 years is an amazing artist. Not only an incredible musician, but he paints, draws, sculpts, etc. I’ve known him since I was about 10 years old, and we have had a lot of good times, especially in our band. Well, I was about to mow the lawn this afternoon, and I get a text. It’s his wife, asking if I’m home and if they can stop by for a minute. I said, “Of course, I’m out in the yard”. They roll in, and give me this.

I was speechless. It’s a priceless gift, and I just wanted to share it with you guys in the Tbird club.

Finally, I get to join the club! I had a Blackbird wayyyyy back (2003-4 or so) but these days my left shoulder can’t stand the reach of a full sized Bird.

Last week the stars happened to align, and I had the money and the opportunity at the same time to buy a rare 2011 T-bird Shorty! It’s not pristine - there is PLENTY of mojo on it and it could use new strings and a loving setup - but right out of the (also beat) case I think it’s pretty damn good. I’ll probably look for advice on stuff like relocating strap buttons for best balance.
- Favorite sound so far is tone dimed, bridge dimed, neck about 6/10 - putting the neck pup full volume is a little too much boom (and that’s with the neck pup physically lower, farther from the strings than the bridge pup!).
- Heavier than I expected at 8 lbs; not a boat anchor but I’ll need to put it down from time to time - I’m older than I probably look, and my left shoulder is positively made of gravel and fire.

Welcome home!

Like you, I really wanted to like a Ric and get one. Geddy, Squire, Lemmy... What could be better? Well, for me anything that isn't a Ric (or a J or a P). So much makes it look great on paper, but in my hands, it just ain't right.

I haven't wanted a short scale either. But that Gretsch feels really good. And I really want to try one of the new LP Jr basses. They look great, they are priced well, and if the neck is like other Gibson necks, I expect I will like it. But I would have to put a Hipshot on it.
I played a Ric for a few years and liked it. It was between 'Birds. It wasn't a 'Bird. I t was beautiful, sounded great, and was easy to play and play well. But, it was not my thing. I think about it but don't miss it enough to consider another one.

Guys and gals. This is just getting sad. I weighed in with my concern. I’m at a loss. I’ll stick my neck out. Please don’t cut my head off. Gibson is just being stupid, IMO.
Gibson strikes again!
I find it hard to disagree.<EDIT> I'm glad I didn't start that project with the slab of wood, a neck, headstock and 4 strings!

View attachment 3458201 This is the photo that he used. It’s from our last show back in April. He told me that he’d been looking for a picture of me to go by, and when this one was posted by a fan, he went for it. He said it took him 7-8 hours to paint.
Pretty much is what life is about my friend. You’re a blessed man.

Cool! You could find yourself on the receiving end of an offer really soon... @kringle77

I hear you on the shoulder. I am awaiting surgery for a torn labrum in my left shoulder. Good news, I have the top surgeon in the area, more good news I am near the top of the wait list, bad news, everything I do results in pain. I am reduced to playing in 15 minute increments. It is a matter of making the tough choices - I could do nothing, get fatter and lose muscle tone that will result in less pain but poorer outcomes. Or I can continue as usual (modified to reduce joint stress) which means more pain but better surgical outcome.
That just sucks. There is not much else I can say. All the best to you.

Yeah, they are. It’s a silly thing to be getting up to. Companies do things all the time that I think they shouldn’t, though; there are a lot of companies out there deforesting the rain forest, polluting, using sweatshop labor, giving Nazis a platform to Nazi at people from, etc. A guitar company being shagy to another guitar company over a body design is the definition of low f@%king priority for me.

Miss some of the info and people here but love all the free time. Lol. Which I just obsessively threw back into motorcycles.... gotta be obsessed with something. Doing nothing sucks. They’re like guitars you can ride.....Was messaged over the color note correspondence thread. Glad to see you’re all rocking....another 1000 pages later.
See you in another 1000 pages and 100,000 miles on two wheels.

Amazing! Welcome to the club. Don’t scrimp on a strap. 4” for you. That bird chose you and deserves pampering. Check out Italia straps. Sign up for emails from them and soon enough they’ll send you a coupon code for about $50.00 off.

I have a super wide comfort strapp I will likely use =0)

Ugh that sounds awful and I'm sorry to read it! Ironically, my *right* shoulder is the worse of the two (that one's made of gravel and random stabs that feel like a white-hot knife trying to rip my shoulder away from my neck!), but something about the long reach out to the lowest positions on basses like the Tbird with no upper horn, really kills my left. I'm going to get back to the doctor and get back to lifting weights if possible to try to develop the muscles to better protect the joints, but who knows.

Do 'they' think that's gonna encourage people to buy Gibsons? Probably destroy any good will that was being garnered.:eyebrow:
