Thunderbird Club

I am unsure what erythropoietin would do for a cricket player. I'm not sure that cricket is an endurance sport and so I don't think it would have much if any performance enhancing effect. It is a performance enhancing drug that is extremely hard to detect. Last I looked at it, rather than directly measure for EPO, testing facilities use hematocrit as a surrogate (which can lead to false positives).
Cricket is an audience endurance sport. If you can stay awake, you win.

For the better part of 5 years I’ve mostly been playing a cab I made for myself. @JGR did the designing of the size, speaker selection and crossover and I built a few prototypes until we were happy. But regarding commercially available cabs, there’s a few Bergantino models I’ve liked a lot. The NV412 is a beast of a rock and roll cab. Duke LeJeune at AudioKinesis has some amazing designs. Alex, at Barefaced has a couple cabs I wouldn’t mind trying. For less boutique stuff, I could rock a couple Mesa Subway 15’s. There’s an older Genz 212 (predates the Uber series stuff)...can’t remember what it’s called now, but those were nice (Neox maybe?)

There was a Hartke 410 in our usual rehearsal room (Room 1 aka 'Ikea Stadium'). I asked to have the Trace 215 brought in enough times that it's now the default cab for the room.

I asked the guitarist which cab she preferred (ie 215 or 410) and her answer was 'the one at your house' -- that would be the SVT212AV ... one day ... when we hire a van.

I'm going to assume Traynor claimed 25W RMS for this discussion, as opposed to "peak to peak", which was marketing BS because the amp companies using that terminology just meant whatever they liked. That said, I haven't seen anything definitive claiming that Traynor said they were 25W. The re-issues claim 20W, which is still way up there, but I can believe someone might pull it off with the best tubes and Class AB.

It would have to be push-pull; you'd need 4 of them to run parallel for pure class A or anything close to it for 25W.

I'm looking at plate power dissipation, not plate voltage. The standard for EL84 plates is 12W. Some can run hotter, but if you run them too hot for too long, they melt. In pure class A[1], you can get about 6W or a bit more from each tube (still at 12W dissipation). To get 12W *output* power per tube, you have to run at class B, which introduces extra distortion. It's possible Traynor came up with a class B amp (or close to it) that sounded good but I haven't personally heard of a class B tube guitar amp.

Also, running at high voltages and plate power, you typically have to run the screen grids hotter. Those will melt down easier than the plates. (I've seen my share of tubes with fried plates and screens! I haven't destroyed any myself, but I've wounded a few while pushing the limits.)

I have a handful of tubes here I would try in such an amp. But I've seen a lot of good EL84s that were shot after just a few months (or even one month) being pushed too hard.

This is all true whether THUNDERBIRDs are involved or not.

[1] Class A: Each tube is amplifying the signal 100% of the time.
[2] Class B: Each tube is amplifying only one half of the signal.
[3] Class AB: Each tube amplifies more than half the signal but less than all of it.
Thank you for the explanation. I learned something new and useful today!

Probably the Neo-X 212 for lightweight prior to the Uber series. 212 XB was the heavier/standard version.

I'll tell you the most dangerous sport of all - it's a Brooklyn game called skelzy. I played in the late 1960's on the streets of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It's a game where you melt wax into bottlecaps. Then you draw a skelzy board on the street with chalk and shoot those weighted bottle caps around with a flick of your finger. This game presented a double threat:
1. Getting hit in the eye with a weighted, sharp-ridged metal object or. . .
2. Even more threatening, the real possibility of getting run over by a car.
Now skelzy was the game for REAL men - well, actually boys and girls.

Many sports use it - it is all about endurance and the ability to maintain a high level of input whatever that may be. So during a long cricket match, the doping player would not fatigue and would excel when others are fading.

Indeed. Because kids are no longer allowed to play "fighting" games, kids no longer learn about conflict escalation.*
*All just my opinion. Perhaps one day I will have time and resources to pursue a PhD in a discipline that allow me to do such research properly.

So do you at least play a doctor on TV? ;) I think conflict resolution is a much more useful skill to develop - that and the ability to run away really fast. (seriously) Anything I ever read that makes sense to me starts with "#1 - try to de-escalate before anything else' - there are self preservation methods that involve dynamic physical interaction but should only be used in the event that you will inevitably be harmed if you don't initiate said action. There are numerous youtube tutorials to illustrate.

Here's one -

Not to mention scratched fingernail polish! :D

Gig night! And whats better than one gig night, is two! We are playing tonight and tomorrow night, I'm stoked. We have a sit in singer as ours wasn't able to do either gig, but he's a cool dude and really good. It's going to be a great time.

The thunderbird gets the call again, and gets some bling to wear.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we have a friend who was supposed to go to this gig and she is a breast cancer survivor. She can't make it now because she just had her appendix removed, but she's going to be at the gig in spirit!

My wife had a vinyl sticker maker, and I asked her to make me a sticker...

I figured, in for a penny, in for a pound so I bought a new gig shirt...

Totally stoked to play! I wish she could attend but we'll make sure to get some picks and hopefully video.

I'll report back Sunday after both gigs!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend planned!

...I'm sure there's still enough blood on those darts to capture a DNA sample. The box inside and instructions are so nonchalant and innocent, from a different and less litigious time.:D
There are are two reasons in that pic indicating that I've got to make at trip to Cali. I loved lawn darts and can play that nice looking black VP. I've played Jarts, but not a black TBird!

That’s a huge rehearsal space!

Got this from eBay thinking I would salvage the pickups and the bridge for another project.

When I received it, I realized it was like new (aside from the detached headstock), it still had the protective plastic on the pickups and guard. So, I whipped out my Sawzall and cut the rest of the neck off, first time I've done that. Then I proceeded to route a neck pocket to fit a G&L neck I had for another project, painted the headstock black in keeping with the Epi theme, installed some cloverleaf tuners and some straploks and came up with this.

I just finished it up in time for a gig tomorrow night. Plays great and sounds....well y'all know how it sounds.
So, for the price of an entry level Squier, I got me a Funderbird!
