I've found that I need to set bass at 10(o'clock), low and high mid at 2, treble at 10-12.Thanks, will definitely check this
R2D2 looks like he's about to spear the violin player with the headstock.
That's a start. I am at work right now but check this setup tomorrow. How about pickups and tone?I've found that I need to set bass at 10(o'clock), low and high mid at 2, treble at 10-12.
Excellent!
Glad to hear you're getting along great with the new VP TBird. Keep the wife and kids happy and they'll help you find time to play the TBird. The video was great, don't think I've ever heard of that band before but I'm a fan now.
As far as getting the same sound as the player on the video, you couldn't have made a better bass choice. The VP wants to naturally sound very agressive. The player in the video has fantastic technique (almost Entwistle style playing) with lots of hard hitting rapid finger reps. His sound has a lot of "zing" and upper mids. It looks like he's using a modern Gibson TBird, which is a bit less agressive sounding and generally more laid back in the mix than a VP. You should easily be able to get his sound with the VP through an Ampeg.
I don't have any experience with fender Rumble amps so can't help you there. Also, maybe somebody else will chime in with a good string recommendation for that type of tone. I usually try to get more laid back and in the pocket than that so my string selection would be different than yours. Rotos, SITs, or Cobalt Rounds might be good strings for that sound.
Enjoy your VP and welcome to the best club on Talkbass. Our Queen @TBird1958 will be by soon to give you a number and warm welcome.
Just got myself Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage PRO in ebony and figured I stop by the Club and share some pics with you.
And who knows, maybe I get a number???
Enjoy
My TBird is a 67 NR. I only use the neck pup. I think the pot on the bridge pup is NG, but since I never use it, I don't care. Tone is normally @ 7; 10 for punch if needed. Cobalt flats for strings. Flats on all 4 of my basses. That's a start. I am at work right now but check this setup tomorrow. How about pickups and tone?
Here's proof that I'm a hopeless dork playing the upright. As threatened, video of Saturday night. My understanding is that there was more video and other stills taken as well.
The bar didn't have chicken wire up in front of the stage. It kinda had that vibe at first, though. There weren't all that many people in the audience, which was too bad. It's fun anyway. The lead guitarist's wife is from Moscow and had never seen anybody spin an upright before. She said she thought I was dropping it the first time it happened. It's just a habit now.

It sure looks like a blank off panel to me.Actually, I wonder if there's any pickup at the neck position at all. It looks like a piece of pickguard material on there. Check out the edges of it in the closeups.
Does "blank off" rate an 'ehem'?It sure looks like a blank off panel to me.

I've always worn my bass at around stomach height, but like you my belly means it sits about six inch further forward but tilts backwards. For me it has changed over the years as the belly got bigger. I used to sling it pretty low, but now the middle section tends to push the "top" of the bass forward so it has creeped up a lot more than I'd like it to be simply to keep the face of the bass from tipping towards my feet. Stupid metabolism!![]()
I don't think so.Does "blank off" rate an 'ehem'?![]()
