"Cojones"-excellent Spanish word meaning.....uh,.....cojones.Thanks. I guess my saving grace is that I have the cojones to do it even if I make a foole(sic)* of myself.
ETA: while playing my 1967 NR THUNDERBIRD IV [took awhile to pull up the pic] the hat is commemorative of my first 'boat'

*With thanks to George Carlin

The action on my bass is around 1/4". Maybe a little more. I tend to like a fairly high action and don't tweak the setup when the weather changes. My fingers aren't especially sensitive to setup.
Primarily a pick player. Gap between bottom of the strings and 12th fret is 2mm.
E - 5/16" (8mm)
G - 3/16" (a smidge under 5mm)
I have been focusing on fingers, but still use a pick at times.
Edit: I should note that when I get this set up the way I really want, the action may be lower. We'll see.
Rehab update:
I reached the third fret!
I can't lift my Thunderbird with my left hand, but I can hold it up to keep it from crashing into the ground.
I think the JC really needs new strings.
I can't tune a R-handed bass.
My callouses are not as thick as they were a few weeks ago.
I'm just not getting any better on the lefty bass; at least not at a decent pace.* I'm still struggling on scales. I can't spread the fingers on my right hand as far as I can on the left, so fretting reliably is difficult. I think it may go back soon.
On a personal level, I am no longer using anything for pain. But I still wake up n the middle of the night uncomfortable (not sure if it is the shoulder of the sling) as you may have noticed from some odd posting times.
* Speculating on why I am not progressing very quickly (in no particular order):
My expectations of progress may be to high.
I am skipping some of the basic steps I took when I first learned - learn to fret notes on the e string, learn to fret notes on the A string, learn to move between two strings, etc.
My left hand is uncomfortable, in part because of my shoulder position, and the bass is much higher than I am used (nipple high) to in an effort to get my fretting hand to open up.
There may be other reasons I am unaware of.

... Unfortunately to my sister's house who lives in Connecticut. I asked her to order it for me. I thought it will be easier then order one from Europe and pay insurance and possible duties.
Because overseas shipping is limited these days (SARS Cov19), I am gonna have to wait for her to visit us sometime in July this year to put these on my VP.
Hope the whole world situation will improve by then so she can make this trip.
Hi everyone, I have decided to say goodbye to talkbass. I only have one Thunderbird ( an Epi ), and I really have nothing to usefully contribute honestly. Lol.
This has been a great group though. Take care everyone and stay healthy!

I had my shoulder repaired at the beginning of February. The history is many shoulder injuries over a life time, two years ago, a skiing accident was the straw the brake the camel's back (the camel being a rotator cuff ligament and the labrum at the insertion of the long head of the bicep tendon). 3 repairs for a total of 6 weeks in a sling and rehab period of 6 months to regain full strength and range of motion. Next up will be the other shoulder (a simpler repair)
What happened? I missed it. Sorry you're not able to play your Thunderbirds like you're used to. Accident? Necessary surgery?
We are the motel 6 of talk bass clubsTake care and be safe! We'll leave a light on.
I’m an unabashed Sheryl fan. I forgive her for her relationship with that bicycle guy. Only seen her a couple timesBut she’s amazing.Robert Plant is still worth seeing live*. He has a new and interesting take on the LZ and other songs the audience wants to hear. And I saw him with Sheryl Crow** and seeing the two of them do Rock n Roll together was worth the price of admission on its own!
* His bass player is playing a Gibson SG which isn't a THUNDERBIRD, but is still really cool.
** Who plays bass, but not a THUNDERBIRD

There are many posts for which I've had nuthin' to reply, whether it's a query about which "I know nothing"(Sgt. Schultz)or something I don't understand(tech stuff),etc. Especially now, I gots nothing better to do than sit in front of the computer amusing/being amused.Hi everyone, I have decided to say goodbye to talkbass.
