Thunderbird Club

Also, my band put out a "new" song last week. We were tracking our first singles, and got tired of too many takes, so decided to throw this in to mix things up, and liked the impromptu results enough to mix it and pop it up. BaCH Thunderbird with Swing 66s straight into a Sunn 2000s and matching cab, can't recall the mic, into a UA Apollo, with just a bit of compression (LA-2A or 1176, also can't remember).

A Japanese instrumental surf and psych band which I love, did a great cover of that song:

The bass player is the same from that video I shared earlier. And of course, she is playing one of her vintage NR birds!

*and here is a preview clip of one of their originals

Here is their new single. Although Akko wasn't able to play bass for the second album, because she had a second child.
So no NR bird on this one :(

My latest bass here together with my first bass! The 1991 Orville I got in November last year and the 1967 Yamaha SB-A5 is my first, think I bough her in 1974. And both are reverse;)
I have wanted a Yamaha SBV for YEARS. LIke a decade ago, they were pretty difficult to get a hold of. Nowadays, much easier. However, my disposable income hasn't been there to finally get one :(

Wait. A Jag? Has neck dive issues? Who knew? I only thought Thunderbirds did that. If you don’t use a decent strap.
My Jaguar has neck dive. Its not terrible, but it is definitely annoying. I think the body on mine is just particularly light. I think some lightweight turners would help a lot. But I haven't bothered. Its not the best playing bass, either. But it sounds AMAZING.

And a special note on Dunlop Superbright steels:

The tone is awesome. They have a very nice mid range character which makes staccato styles that much more fun. They are very flexible and should pull on the neck less, than many strings. However, I stopped using Superbrights due to quality issues, pack after pack. YMMV

Tried em once, loved em, killed them instantly. But great tone for sure.

I love this band.

Thanks. Another question, do anyone here have compared the Babicz 3PB replacement against the Hipshot? if so, is there an audible/discernible difference in sound, tone, sustain, etc? or one would go well with any?

They're both great. Unless you're looking for adjustable string spacing, go with the one you think looks better. I love Hipshot bridges so I go with them on principle, but it's really an aesthetic choice if you have no preference in company.

I haven't tried any so I can't really tell, I just have read comments from people who say that the Babicz is superior but I don't know if there's any real difference between both aside from the aesthetics.

Do you consider that the Hipshot is a real upgrade over the basic 3PB?

'65 Cardinal Red IV - not certain what's going on with that squared-off thumb-rest...

Ten colors were available, including the gorgeous Cardinal Red that drapes this 1965 example. Other colors on the chart were Heather Poly, Pelham Blue Poly, Golden Mist Poly, Kerry Green, Silver Mist Poly, Inverness Green Poly, Ember Red, Frost Blue, and Polaris White. Some black instruments were also manufactured, but were never catalogued as a color option.

Years ago, Chrysler had a color called Emberglow. Very similar to Ember Red. That'd look good on a Bird.

I find it an upgrade, but my initial reason was for their adjustable string spacing.

What reasons have said comments given for the Babicz being superior to the Hipshot?
