Thunderbird Club

That looks nice...though the color there looks lighter than PB?
The only thing I’m not sure of on my PB Jackbass is the pickguard. Black (as in the pix) or white? I have both...
I’m not sure of that color at all. The headstock is faded to a greenish color, just like 7ender LPB. The body color? Hard to know if it’s original. It looks like San Diego Chargers baby blanket blue in that pic. I need to do some research. But...I really like the Sparkle Pelham Blue on my Epi Limited Edition bolt-on. I might have them match that. After all, it will be a one of a kind VP owned by a guy who isn’t concerned about recouping the money sunk into it.

As for the JC, naked? Can’t help you there until you post multiple pics.

You've got to hurry on this. I can't wait to see the finished project. Have you got the paint ordered yet?:)

I was interested in the bass you posted a pic of, but is was in the guys personal collection. He ended up selling it to some guy in Canada. Geddy something or other. I think the PB on yours will be the envy of us all, and will look way better than that old faded thing that Canadian ended up with.

Part of my afternoon just freed up. I pulled the old scratchy pots out of a [redacted]. Then I discovered the new pots are too big for the holes. Not a huge deal, but these pots were ordered from the guitar manufacturer's shop as specifically being the correct ones for this model.
I can foresee several possible answers. I don't know which is more likely.
  • "It took you a month to get around to this. We only allow N days." (If so, I have no idea what N is.)
  • "Sorry, specs and suppliers do change. Just drill out the pickguard."
  • 'Sorry, specs and suppliers change. Would you like a new pickguard?"
  • "Our bad. Would you like a new guitar?" (Option 1: Just add pots.)
  • "Sorry. Just throw it away and buy a new one. Here's a 5% off coupon!"
Did I miss any?

This would never happen with an Epiphone THUNDERBIRD. That's because Epiphone will not sell you parts, Miles.

(I'm fixing the guitar as part of my closet cleanout now that I have three Birds.)

Preferably of the bass, so as not to get the Club shut down again.

I do like the pickguard on the JC...balances it out since the horns are uneven, plus I really think it pops with the "e" metal decal

Oh my! I am truly happy for you.:hyper:
You are going to love this bass! Get ready for a loud punchy bass! Those strings are going to be very lively on an already lively bass, but may be something you like. And that case is really nice as well. I love mine and carry all my Thunderbirds in it. Not too heavy or bulky like the Gibson cases.

Thank you my good friend. I’ll keep you all apprised. Didn’t really need the case, but I’ll compare it to what I have and may offer one up here.

As for your new bird, you and I have different ears. Mine have been through hundreds of concerts, including something like 30 Neil Yong & Crazy Horse shows. So...I am not reliable at all. But to me, my NR with the modern PUPs does not sound too scooped. It still has the Slinkys that the seller put on it when he shipped it to me. I eq the amp to get what to me sounds “round” with a bit of dirt. But that’s just me.

Black would look good. But having spent all that money on the colour, it seems a shame to cover it up. I say try nekkid. The nekkid JC look is cool (wish I had tried it earlier)

Damned Canadians.

Pedalboard Patch Cable Sale!
Looking at the available flat right angle cables, it cane down to MXR, EBS, or Rockboard (appears to be the same as Kat's beloved Warwicks). The EBS Gold are very low profile, and I found them on sale at American Musical Supply the same price or cheaper than the deluxe cables anywhere else. Free shipping.
Perfect for your THUNDERBIRD pedalboard. May work with other instruments. Tax and title not included. Some restrictions may apply. Price may not apply in all areas of the world.

Damn him. Between him and @godofthunder59, all the good vintage stuff is gone. Oh well, I couldn’t afford it anyway.

It turned into a nice afternoon here, time to relax after a couple of difficult days. To keep it Thunderbird related I watched “Velvet Goldmine” last night, the parallels between Bowie/Ronson and Mick Rock’s photography is fun! There’s some great scenes that echo Mick’s Bowie pictures with the band’s bassist use a Bird instead of Trevor Bolder and his EB3

Roto report on the Gibson. More punch but still pretty bland, even with the Rotos. Hard to figure. When I set my Ampeg on mid #3 (800 Hz) I cranked it to 8.5 to 9 (out of 10) to get some mid punch and bite! I've never had mids set anywhere near that high before. Sounds crazy with Rotos on. Still sounded somewhat scooped (big lows and highs) even at that really so with both PUs on full. Most of the time I just used the neck or the neck with the bridge rolled off 1/4 or so. I know you can get a scooped tone to some extent with both fully on, but it kind of disappears in the mix when playing with fingers. The PUs are up about as far as they can go, and going down I would think would take the edge it does have off a little. I'm really perplexed and want this wonderful bass to have some punch. Stupid question: Could the bridge PU be in backwards and out of phase? I'm ignorant here. One reason I ask is that I find the lows really go away with both PUs, and I'm wanting to add bass to get that big sound back. Kind of shocked since the modern PUs are supposed to be a little heavy in the lows and low mids.

Next string try might be TI Jazz Rounds. Tiny strings, but huge thick tone.

I would try DR Highbeams or something along that line. Those have a way of waking up a bass, at least that has been my experience.
