I have a quick question. My Epi Vintage Pro has the strap button in the center of the neck, which keeps it from neck diving (the ‘86 Gibson I used to have had it on the leading edge of the bass “horn” originally, which sucked for neck dive). The problem I’m currently having is that because I have a bit of a gut, the bass tends to roll so it’s angled away from me (I’m looking slightly more at the back of the neck, if that makes sense). If I raise it a bit, it doesn’t do that, but then it’s higher than my other basses. I’ve seen some pictures of John Entwistle where it looks like he’s got his strap attached to the back side of the “horn”, rather than the neck or edge of the body. Has anyone tried that position? I’m curious about it, but thought I’d ask around before I drilled a new hole!

Before drilling, you might try wearing it with the strap over the bottom of the wing:

I did that, and it seemed weird. I might just shorten the strap and then adjust my other basses. We’re getting ready to move, so most of the fifteen are in storage at a friend’s house, but the ones that are here all seem like they could come up a little. I have then so the E string is about 41” off the ground in the midline of my torso. I’m thinking my Fenders (which are not here) are a little higher. I never thought about measuring the height from the floor until I was trying to set up the strap for the Tbird.

You're just showing off that pickguard you know I love!:D

This is my promised pics of the original ebony/abalone pg that I made in about '74 for my stolen '63 II. I put it on my '64 for pics but will remove it now that I've documented it in pics. I'm not superstitious but putting it on my '64 is sorta' uncomfortable. Other than this which I had no idea how I was reacting to until I did it - I never rest a bicycle wheel on the side of a chair if I'm changing a tyre etc... too much of a wheelchair image...

As you can see - it's pretty crude compared to the second one I made in late '78. Like pancakes - the second batch is always better! :)
