Thunderbird Club

As we have a keys player, I could see how using too much of its effect would overlap as it produces sort of an Hammond organ sound. But if our jam-sessions ever restart they are primarily guitars so a bass/organ sound would be cool. In these sessions I hesitate to use too much effects because the guitarists all have banks of pedals, so straight bass sits in nicely. In full flight with all those effects - it's hard to tell who's playing what once they get going!
At some point I might figure out howinnahell I spelled "Toccata" 'Toddata' :wacky:, esp. since T & F in D Minor is my favorite JS Bach composition. I am a 2 finger 'typist', but I always proofread. Not necessarily accurately, apparently.:bag:

It is a pedantic fine point, but...
A harpsichord does not have valves. A pipe organ does. A harpsichord has quills or something similar that pluck the strings.

But more to the point, digital emulation is getting amazing levels of minute detail now. It is scary accurate.

Which Roland is it?

Yah, I wasn't sure what to call where that sound comes from on a harpsichord - more of a 'plunk'. It is the VR-09 - light/portable, sounds great and didn't break the bank for what you get.

where is spellcheck when you really need it...

I had an EVO 300 II that I took on a trade for a while. That's most of my serious experience/time with Ashdowns. I really liked it. Cheap, light and sounded amazing good--especially in that price range. You know more than me, and it's been a while, but I'm thinking that was just SS not hybrid.
you are correct, never played that model. My infatuation is with the Klystron which has one 12AX7 in the preamp and the 550 Spyder (like GEO’s) which has an all tube pre. Unlimited gobs of tone from that amp..

yep - especially driving a late '60s 15" JBL D120R - bass nirvana

This is what it looked like - the 550 Spyder dual tube preamp lettering is screened on the chrome face-plate and when cleaning it they rubbed off (!) Found that cool Heathkit badge on eBay - Bob's yer uncle! FTR, 550 Spyder is the Porsche James Dean crashed & died in. Beats me why Ashdown thought it was a good idea to name their amp that. :cautious:

Ashdown has a model called “Little Bastard”...think the guy to the left has a crush on Jimmy Dean...

I like it too, but those pickups would somehow have to become chrome fro me.
I’m fine with how they look. I have a fabulous ‘15 and like the look of the similar looking PUPS. But chrome would look cool. If you bought the way more expensive Lakin version, he’ll hook you up. But then you’re looking at serious money + or - 4K range. Ouch.

At that price I'd just save a bit more and get a '60s Reverse, I already have boutique Bird in the Lull. I think those pups look fine on the '15s as the hardware matches.

Yes, I am aware of the "Little Bastard" (nickname for the 550 Spyder car) - very David Cronenberg of him...

Warning: not a film (or book) for everyone - it's pretty dark and twisted. The reenactment of James Dean's "Little Bastard" crash is part of the film and seen briefly in this preview.

Saw it in the theatre when it came out. Tough movie to watch at times.
