Thunderbird Club

Since I don't have anything new (yet) for Thunderbird Thursday, thought I'd post the first picture I ever took of a Thunderbird :nailbiting:

This is a really good video comparing strings.

I just listened one time. Maybe it was me, but I kind of thought the lightest guage was brighter, yet he said the heavier sets were brighter. Maybe it was because he had to turn down with the heavier set. Or, maybe my ears are shot or...well it could be a lot of things.

I forgot, but I really like the tape wounds! Something else to try one day.

I really like it this way, I ve been experimenting with adhesive tape to find the placement that fits me!
Incroyable!

How will you get the headstock to fly off and kill two or three people if you don't let the Thunderbird neck dive?? ;):laugh:

Very nice. I'm starting to think I may need a black VP to with my white CP...

The lightest set (40/95) really did sound like a standard guitar but an octave down.
He got some early McCartney out of the 45/100 set (and the 50/105s).
The 50/105 finally got into what I think of as proper bass territory. Still no thunder.

The flatwounds sound great!
The tapes did some things really well, others meh. The harmonics really sounded good.

Very useful video, but I would have liked some very simple, short clips of each string back to back for a more direct comparison. At least he did a lot of the same things on each string gauge, which definitely helped.
I'm so far happy with tapes on the '15. They are fairly low tension, which surprised me. I had to adjust the neck. I never have to adjust a neck! The Flamingo has 50-110s on it. They are Bass Burners. I didn't like them at first, but the longer they are on there, the more I like them. Dead rounds for the win! The '01 currently has DR nickel rounds. I don't remember whether they are hex or round core. When those get changed, it will be back to Black Beauties on that bass. Probably 50-110 instead of 95-105 like before. Turns out I like somewhat heavier strings.
