Thunderbird Club

I've had four Gamma basses and one guitar...... HAD is the key word. I have a long story about Gamma that isn't very good. It sucks, but it taught me a few things.

Im all ears! I bought one Gamma P Bass used and it’s pretty good, I think. Joe wrote me a nice note and that was the end of it. If you have insights, I’d personally like to hear em!

That red Eppi is just insane! Love the look of the black strings, but ya gotta do something about the multi color silks, you're driving my OCD crazy.

Yeah, it bugs me too. I try to ignore it, which is easier when I'm playing it.
That, and the multi-color ball ends that Rotosound uses now, I don't care for.

I'd hate to see how a Nexus 5-string set looks! :nailbiting:

One of the things I like about the DR coated strings - same color from one end to the other, no silks at all

Same. I like the sparse, stealthy look of the Black Beauties. The fact that they sound so right (my personal fact that I espouse) puts them high on my "revisit" list.

Why are both highly recommend? From what I’ve read, they both sound pretty similar. Is there that much of a palpable difference in tone between the neck thru & set neck, or some other reason? I can understand having the Embassy as a beater if you don’t want you’re stupid expensive 60’s Gibbo to leave the house, but that isn’t my dilemma, as I wouldn’t be “nervous” about gigging the VP.
I was trying (not successfully) to be humorous. It’s the thing around here to enable GAS and have different basses with different strings, pickups etc. I don’t have an Embassy, but the ones I’ve played have been nice for the price. I have not played one through my amps, so I can’t help on any difference in tone.

I do like the Black Beauties in some applications - I have them on the "Redbird" atm.
I also like them on the Blackbird, and if it wasn't for the silks on the Nexus set, I'd probably swap the strings between the two.
Imo, the Blackbird's (DeepSixx) pickups are a little too hot for the Nexus strings.
Maybe I should try them on the "Whitebird"....

For most others, I prefer the other coated DRs, they're nickel plated, instead of stainless, under the coating.

may I join this club? my latest acquisition came from a Ric 4003 trade. My wife wasn't initially impressed by the appearance of this Gibson T Bird then I played it for a while. Serious bottom end boom and punch. She's impressed now.
