BTW, my Studio V is also very rare and is in pristine condition and sounds incredibly thunderous. It is a 10 pounder though and that's why when I need to drop into C and B territory, I choose to use my Classic Pro strung BEAD. It is a really cool collectible bass but my collecting days are coming to an end. I may regret that someday but for now, that's what I feel like doing though I'm not desperate to sell.

The shorty is light and comfortable to play. It's my #1 couch/watching TV bass. It's also what I start learning more difficult songs on before graduating to one of the regular Tbirds. Sounds awesome. It's a forever bass for me.

Ah. Every set of DR strings I've tried has been way too polite-sounding for my taste. What do you have on the Orville? It's no secret that I love the SIT Power Steel, but I think any aggressive stainless steel string works really well with the TB+.

Thanks for your comment about the strings, I have to look into something else than DR:s for sure. Never hade them on any bass before actually.
The Orville has the same, unknown to me, round wounds that were on when I picked it up two years ago. The bass sounds just so good, so never thought about changing the strings. But what they are, no idea…

Back now. I love playing my Ps (sounds a bit odd...), and glad I don't have to choose, but if I did, a Thunderbird would be the last bass standing.

Funny thing is that I used to think a Precision was its own thing entirely. I have one, but prefer Thunderbird ergos. So, I built a P-Bird that's a Precision in all but shape. Both sound a little thin and weak next to what the '01 did last night. It had the thick, round sound that a Thunderbird has, but it also managed to be more of a maroon sound than the usual Thunderbird black and teal and electric blue. If that makes sense, you have a problem! But it's the only way I can describe it. It's got a Hipshot x-tender at one end and a Babicz bridge at the other, but is bone stock besides those minor modifications. There's just something a little different about that specific bass that makes it a tad easier to play and better sounding than any other bass I have ever picked up. The '15 and the Flamingo are right there, but not quite. I suspect that the VP will come out a bit, but nowhere near as much as the others.

The '01 sounds good with fingers and a pick. I guess it's time to learn to slap, because I'm sure that will sound good, too.

We are(normally)a quartet, working for trio-sometimes duo-pay. We have 3 different sax men we[rarely]use, 1 trumpet player, and a steel drum guy. No place around here pays enuff to give any of them a call. One of the sax players, who also sings quite well, does a single with tracks. He works fairly steady. The biz in SE FL sux.

Thanks. When I see clips like this and others, my question is, who in the world was still filming in black and white in the late 70s? I'm sure there was a cost thing and possibly what was filmed may have just been for the band to review at times.

Yeah I still get to play with horns in a jazz context, but now I’m in a band that plays Proud Mary CCR style with 2 guitars. It’s not bad, but just doesn’t compare to playing the Tina Turner version with trumpet/sax/trombone. Same deal with Superstition.
Gonna have to get another band going!

haven’t try a three point with a tailpiece……something just doesn’t seem right for some reason….bias? perhaps…all I know is that i received it like that from the previous owner and absolutely kicks booty configured as is….
