Yeah, it's pretty awesome. Dead quiet, with bass and treble boost and cut. Used it on what turned out to be my favorite recorded bass tone. But how does it sound? If it is frickin killer then by all means.

Thanks! This is the first Gibson bass since I was rock'n a Grabber back in high school. It had been all Fender since then. I was surprised by how much I like the feel and tone. And GC was practically giving it away. So, the GAS got the better of me.Great looking Bird!
As for the white mini skirt, you obviously need to get out more. If you had any social life at all you'd have a little black skirt in your wardrobe.
And maybe a butt bow if you're really a wild child.
Stand up to @GBassNorth trying to corrupt you into wearing a butt bow, even the queen refuses; it's just a fetish of his, he needs help. Go ahead with the skirt though if you have nice legs, give Mark some competition, credit where it's due, Mark has nicer legs than my missusThanks! I guess I will have to be on Thunderbird Bass Club double secret probation until I get the pics up of the black skit mini and the bow!
That's an interesting serial number. I wonder if there's any significance to all those zeros. Probably not, but I like 'em. Question for you - have you run across any issues with a dead spot on the G string. I have been chasing one around and have minimized it but it's still there at about D (seventh fret.) The '91 had a mild one at the fifth fret, but a couple tweaks got rid of it. I'm having a bit more of a challenge with the '15. Other than that, the pickups make it an outstandingly versatile bass guitar, so it gets played a lot dead spot or no.
Thanks for the warm welcome, folks. Here are a few pics for my initiation. I would have included a pic of me in mini skirt but it is white and I wouldn't be caught dead in it after labor day!View attachment 947971 View attachment 947972View attachment 947975

It might just be my bass and whatever happened to it before I got it. I may break down and take it to somebody who really knows how to set up a bass guitar instead of futzing with it any more. Maybe.I am not sure about the serial number. I was wondering why they don't have a 2016 model? I have not encountered the issue with the G string. I will explore it a bit more though. I can't believe how much I love the feel of the neck itself.
You noted the versatility with the coil tapping switches. To be honest, I have not utilized them too much. I really love the rumble it has with both pups fully engaged. But I have not owned it for that long and will need to noodle around with the settings.
I have Schallers on the 1991. The upper strap button isn't ideally placed to use those, what with the knob sticking out from them. Just saying.
It's probably just because of how I like the bass to hang. I swing it over to the right just a bit, and balance it with the neck at 45 degrees or even steeper. That puts the knob in a place that can be poky at times. I don't have straplocks on the other ones, and probably won't install them. I jump around a lot, but haven't had anything fall apart yet. (Famous last words.)I use them there on my pesrsonal basses and about 80% of customers'. Dunlops in the same place, too.
No complaints.

Yes. I call the reversed ones "Gibson straps" and the ones with the lock facing the same direction "Fender straps." I put locks on the EB-2 and an archtop guitar with the strap button at the heel of the neck. Those are Dunlops for what it's worth. I like having a strap for everything, that way I don't do something dumb like leave the strap at home. All my basses have them as well. I have two straps for the Thunderbirds as the front strap gets the lock put on opposite direction as normal do the strap isn't twisted. Anyone else do this?
What are 'elliptical strap buttons' ? You don't mean those strap lock washer things? And now for a safety announcement.
I've been quite smug about putting elliptical stap buttons on my basses - canny cheap and all that and seem solid. The other day the Maranello took a dive (luckily I had hands on and it didn't go far).
Lesson learned, Schaller locks ordered.
