Thunderbird Club

I mean I'm not going to say no to one, but I much prefer how the NRs look in custom colours. I'm not overly fond of sunburst on any any instrument, the Reverse being an exception.

The 70's style ring in the neck pickup looks akward. Especially with that pickup placement.

John McVie had a ring in his NR, got to find a picture.

Agreed, it looks a bit funny, though easily remedied. I have seen an original NR with the chrome ring, though can't say I think the neck pickup ring on it was original.

Just yankin' yer chain. Being a Grumpy Olde Phart, I tend to go for more 'traditional' looks in both shape and finish. As long as it's a Gibson/Epi., that is.

I got an idea! Box up that Greco and send it to me, and we can see which one arrived first!

Not too likely as it's the one that will leave the house (should I ever play another show) , it's kind of a Japanese Doppelganger. OTHO I'll take it that you like new Greco and another would be nice.

As a gin-you-wine Appalachian by ancestry, I have a genetic knowledge of what a real hillbilly is. Not a redneck, though. That's a different animal altogether, and I am always insulted any time anybody calls me a redneck.

Like most words in our language, the meaning changes through time. Redneck was a term used by city folk or the educated country folk to look down their noses at the common outdoor laborer. Thinking that the person working a shovel or a field is lower class and less than.

It has now lost the "common outdoor laborer" part and is just an insult to refer to someone as lower class. When used with your friends though it can highlight some funny stuff they might be doing which is good for a laugh.

One of my best friends was a hillbilly though and through. A Kentucky transplant to Michigan that could fix just about everything and loved to drink and play piano. One of his other great loves was spelunking Mammoth Cave and he and his group were responsible for mapping a great deal of that system. Sadly, he was taken by Parkinson's a few years back.

You know, with these unsubstantiated rumors of more vintage spec'd 'Birds, I just had the realization if they do come out, while I'd want to grab one immediately, with all the exclusives Chicago Music Exchange does...I might have to wait and see if they put out some more ostentatious color options than Sunblurst. Though if they make a II I may need one in Sunburst and a custom color, I do love the look of the old 60s Sunburst ones (about the only instrument I like a burst one, at least the original Reverse, not as fond of it on the NR body style).

Also there's a 2013 NR down in San Diego for sale with Epiphone 760s in it...

Is that your bass, D.M.N.? Fair price for sure and GLWTS.

I prefer the neck P/U be ring-less as well. I'm kind of surprised that a pro would place a ring there but to each their own.

FWIW, I called CME when I saw the custom color SG bass and asked if they had any future plans to do T-Birds (of any model) in custom colors.

The answer was "No" but that seemed to be based more on Gibson's manufacturing capacity at the moment. I am hoping something comes that is a bit different than the standard stuff.

I hear ya. You like the old Thunderbird bursts because they're not Sunbursts but Tobacco bursts. Which is also why I like them. A sunburst can only be made worse with tort. I do like the very early Fender two tone burst that's black and fades to a nice yellow. When you throw that red in there I'm done.

That bass pictured is an excellent example of a nice burst that not pukey. No yellow, no tort. I’d play that

Yep. As much as anything most who live over in the "hills" of Kentucky, etc., just want to be left alone to live their life. They can be closed communities that at times don't take to outsiders. Like most areas they have their fair share of crime and problems (but not like big cities who are run by the "smart people"), but that kind of thing is looked down upon--and at times not tolerated. Most are down to earth, hardworking people who just want to live life the best way they know and not be told by folks in big cities how they ought to be living. It's fine if folks in big cities are OK with being told how they should live, but that's not for them. I always thought gang members and the like should be sentenced to "re-education" camps in the hills. If they came back, they would be very different people.;)

Very few classy looking bursts, that thar be one of them..

I can't say I don't like it, but I wouldn't go through the effort of adding one.

I think I have room for one more instrumink, and I'd like it to be a II, and I doubt I'd be willing to spend '64 munny on it. I may some day, but I'd hate for my estate to take it to music-go-rong...

Loves my Greco...

I'd say this one here would be my ideal II, no need to repaint, just add Hello Kitty sticker and ROCK the shag out! or Jazz or Country...

same picture I stole earlier...

Yum. Have sound clips of that?
No, sure don't. But it's in the top five best sounding basses I have. I keep going back to GHS Pressurewounds on it. Just sounds right. I traded a Ric and got this and some $$$. One of the best deals I ever made. Don't miss the Ric at all. Only a handful were made and most were lefties. This and maybe one other were the only ones without the pickguard, which is how I would have ordered one.

From the guy I got it from:
This build is part of Renerate's Heritage Series™– Optimizing the vintage styling and sound of the classic electric basses introduced in the 1950’s. Lovingly produced with a ton of thought and quality. This is a real boutique bass. Here is description of this model from Regenerate:

Heritage Plus™ 4 Extreme- “NAMM 2011
· Select Swamp Ash body with forearm & tummy contour, 3/8″R edge round over-
· Eastern Maple 21-fret neck w/dual carbon fiber stiffening bars
· 12″R Maple fretboard, zero-fret, vintage tint satin finish, 1-5/8″ nut width
· Nordstrand SCPB (neck) + Big Single (bridge) pickups
· Nordstrand 2-band 18v pre-amp (Vol – Blend – Passive tone – active Bass/Treble)
· Hipshot Ultralight tuners (with a Drop-D)
· Hipshot bridge
· All Chrome hardware

All Heritage™ Series necks are expertly crafted from seasoned hardwoods selected for proper grain orientation. Note that the volume knob is push/pull – the knob in the up(pull) position operates as a preamp bypass, enabling passive mode.

I might have to build one

Not to be confused with California watermelon…

If that’s a Gibby offering I feel kinda queasy…
That pickguard, that logo, that blocked but unbound neck, that upper horn!
Pardon me while I go throw up.

Just be glad your shipment wasn’t routed through LA on a freight train!

LOL - as a native Cali Kid born in the Bay Area who spent the first half of his life living in CA (SF and LA areas) and the second half of his life living in Northern Kentucky, all I can say is yes KY does have a hillbilly or two. Most choose to live a relatively simple lifestyle and rarely ever look for handouts, the tendency is more towards self sufficiency but always willing to help a friend or neighbor. Rednecks are a totally different beast, and in my experience there are far more rednecks and bubbas in CA than I ever saw in KY. How they manage to coexist in this state packed to the gills with Karen’s and Virtue Signaling Limousine Liberals is a mystery to me. I just try to stick to my Thunderbirds and ignore the extremes on both ends.
just stay west of I-5..:D...
