thunderbird tone out of a fender?

I know what the OP is struggling with. The T-Bird (mine is an Epi) has a tone that is comparitively darker than my P Bass (with SP-3 P/ups). Although The Bird is not as bright as the P, its tone is warm, wooly, and Phatt! With a touch of overdrive and high EQ boost, it does a great Duff (G&R) tone. I get lots of compliments on this bass (my Epi-Bird). The P sounds thin in comparison.

Hell, I want to get a Rickenbacker sound out of a breedlove acoustic. Just don't think its gonna happen. That being said, if you are not a super purist, there are probably a number of basses that come close, but I doubt anything but a bird is gonna sound exactly right.

I think the Epi T-Bird sounds like a muddy P-bass.

The T-bird has a subtle grunt sound that no other bass quite reproduces ...

Move the strap button, learn how to work an EQ. problem solved. people who get muddy tones out of T-birds just haven't spent enough time with them.
