Thunderfunk 550 Users-what rack bags do you use??

I use a Protec 3 space bag and have a Furman conditioner with lights. I like the zipper compartment on the Protec to keep papers and such.

Is anyone using a bag like Invalid Link Removed for their Thunderfunk? I'm thinking of getting it for my AMP BH-420...

Those bags are actually really nice, and I'm pretty sure they made the original AI Series 1 bags.

The problem with a bag like that and the Thunderfunk550(a) is the 'switch' on the front and the on/off fan switch on the back are 'baseball bat' type switches and stick out a ways. That's not optimal protection with a soft bag. The new 550(b) amps replaced the baseball bat switch with a chiclet switch (I actually like the baseball bat switch better.. but just a nit), but they still have the baseball bat switch for the fan in the back... without protection (i.e., in a Mooridian or Rock Sac), that switch might break IMO.

I had that concern until I started using the Mooradian. Having used it nearly every day for a year I no longer have any concern. In order to break either switch when bagged, I'd have to be very reckless and would damage much more than just the switches.

That's actually great to know. The heads are so small and light that a bag would be perfect. Thanks for the post.

You are, of course, welcome. If you or others are interested, I thought it was best to have the bag zip on three sides, with one of the short sides being the hinge. This way, I can slide the TFunk in and out while holding its handle and it gives me a good reference point for which end to set it down on. It is visually obvious not to stand the bag up on one of the long ends (and put undue pressure on any of the switches/knobs). I'll take pictures if anyone is interested, but it should be pretty clear.

That's EXACTLY how I was going to have a Mooridian made for my TF when I got it... and then I got nervous about the switches. Very cool. I'm actually using the newer lightweight road case that you can buy from Dave... expensive, but very lightweight and built like a tank. The newer design has plenty of space below the amp for cables, etc.

Anyway, that 'vertical' Mooridian sounds like it works great.

All I cared about was lightweight and protective. If the newer desgin had been available a year ago, I probably would have gone that way.

Hey Kindness, do you have a web site for Mooradian cases. I did a search and only came up with instrument case sites. I like to check one of those out you and Ken talked about for my Epi 502.

Here's the website. http://www.mooradian.com/ Contact them and tell them what you need. They were very easy to work with. Very professional and understood exactly what I needed.

My bag is a 3/4" foam padded 3.5" x 10.5" x 17" bag with the hinge on the 10.5" side and with an outside pocket, padded shoulder strap and handles on the opposite 10.5" side.

Found the site, but no pics of bags styles, but I do like the idea of 3 sided zipped w/one side hindged, access would be much easier. Would the one you have fit the Epi 502 and would the pockets be big enough for the pedal and a spk cable or two?

Thanks, we were posting at the same time, well, you beat me to it. Greatly appreciated.

No problem. The bag I had made has a smallish pocket that zips along the short side of the bag. It is large enough for me to take the power cord, speakon cable, instrument cable, tuner, notebook, etc., but is not by any means a large pocket. I think that you have have a larger pocket if it zipped along one of the longer sides, but I didn't need more than I got.

I've had one of their Walter Woods bags for years. Very high quality, and +1 on working with you on measurements and design... very good and they deliver quickly.

However, the bad news is IMO, they are very thinly padded... more dust and slight ding protection vs. true protection. IMO, if you drop a head from carrying position with these bags, you are in BIG trouble. However, I use mine with great success with my Walter when I'm hauling my own gear and can put the bag in the back seat.

+1 to everything
