Thunderfunk!

Well, after wading through roughly 25 pages of threads on the Thunderfunk, I decided I would get one. I've been emailing back and forth with Dave (who's been absolutely fantastic to work with!), and I shipped out some trades today, so now the wait begins! :hyper:

Naturally, the next step for me is to upgrade my cab situation. The common suggestions seem to be Epifani, Schroeder, Acme and Eden... I need something that's going to be loud enough and versatile enough to get me through a variety of gig situations. Mostly I get involved with blues (Muddy Waters/Howlin' Wolf), rock (classic rock mostly--Clapton, Zeppelin, Hendrix), and country (more alt-country/roots) music. I'd like a cab will compliment both the old school thump of my P-bass with flats, and my MIA '62 Jazz RI with rounds.

I'd like to keep the cost under $1,000. What cabs and configurations do you suggest?

The TFB-550B is a killer head!

I started with a SWR Goliath III and migrated to an Accugroove Whappo Jr and then to a TRI-210. The Accugrooves really sounded nice with the TFunk but
I wanted to get something more portable and eventually wound up with 2 Bergantino HT-112's. IMO the Bergs are the best combination yet!

Believe it or not one of the Berg 112's is adaquate for most medium volume gigs. The mid-range voicing of the Berg 112cuts through a live mix like a knife. I couldn't imagine playing a gig that would require more than the TFunk and 2 Berg HT-112's.

I just ordered my first Berg 112 last night. Can't wait for it to arrive...

Also, congrats on a great head.

You should definitely add Bergantino and EA to your list of considerations.

If you don't mind hauling some weight around, the older Mesa Boogie Diesel 410 cabs with EV drivers are exceptional sounding speakers if you can find them used -- should be able to get a good deal on them as well.

Oh man! You're going to love it!:D Shoot me a PM and tell me what you think after you gig a few times out with the TFunk/Berg 112 combo.

I've been playing my TFB-550B through the Berg for a little over 3 months now and I still can't stop smiling when I play!:)

A single Berg HT112 is enough for a lot of (medium-sized) gigs? Would it still be able to produce some serious old-school thump? I could afford one in a relatively short period of time... two would take a couple months, probably.

Will do. Your glowing reviews along with many of the TB'ers helped me make my final decision. The Berg should be here next week. I am pumped! :hyper:

RJNY, you cannot go wrong with the Thunderfunk and it sounds great with any cab. Good luck!

I very much look forward to getting the TF550-B.

Unfortunately, it's going to be underserved at first, as the only cab I've got on hand is a GK Backline 1x15. It was the best I could afford when I got back into playing earlier this year and needed a cab and a head in a hurry! Within a few weeks, I'll be able to budget in a Berg 112.

I've got to work my way up to nicer gear over time... unless TomBowlus or someone with a lot of gear and/or money wants to make some donations. :D

I know the feeling. I bought a dinosaur Trace Elliot 1x15 when I started playing again last year which has served me quite well. Believe it or not, the TF makes it sound very good. But, it's time to move it on up to the modern era - Berg is on the way...

rjny36, you will love that Thunderfunk! I heard KJung's on Labor day, and that amp is as clear as glass. It is so clear and pleasant that I actually forgot how loud it was! Kjung had a nice Schroder cab too. It was an awesome combination.:bassist:

If you didn't get rid of your Trace, and you happen to think of it, I'd be interested in hearing if the TF + Berg 112 + Trace 115 is any good... if so, there might be some hope for the GK and a Berg until I could afford a second. :)

I'd love to get lo-freq's Schroeder, but it's going to be out of my price range for a little bit. :crying:

I still have the Trace and checking out that combo is definitely on my to-do list and is one of several reasons why I bought just the one HT112 at this time (I actually have the GAS money to buy two). I wanted to see how well the Berg sounded alone when playing out and how well the Berg+TE would sound together. I will let you know.

The wait is killing me...
