There's no quick way as far as I know. It took my Mittel E a couple of months at least.
Forgot about the baby oil thing my teacher told me about. Sadly there was none in the house so I threw some Olive oil. I put the spiro G back on because it mixed better with the set of new strings. I may keep this updated so someone can later read back on this and know what the 1st month is like? Anyone interested in hearing?
baskts: I should have mentioned that my Mittel E has been on for about 7 years....so I could be a bit off with the breaking-in time. But I would say it was at least two months. At the time I was more interested in how the Spiro Mittel responded on my bass compared to the Weich E. I was much happier with the Mittel and have no plans to change it out....ever.
Time for some Spirocore killing! My new baby worked out fantastic with Spiro Red Mitchell weichs under plain gut solo A and D, but there was a slight tension problem between the steel low G and gut D, and the low C had gotten a bit too dead after being tuned up to D for some time. Got yesterday a new Spiro RM weich C and a mittel A, which I tuned down to G. Tension is now really good, I raised the strings a half turn. These new Spiros doesn`t feel as stiff as the ex-ones, it`s easier to hear the pitch on a new low C and they bow very well right out the package too. Have to play them a lot, to get rid of the twang. The ex-low C had almost gut-type of fundamental sound and I`m really looking forward for that on this one too. Just beautiful, very happy!
Sadly there was no olive oil at my house so I grated on some Parmigiano-Reggiano. Now my playing is even cheesier.
I just installed a spiro weich E string that's been in my drawer since 1995. It was probably 3-5 years old when I put it there. It sounds great with the Zyex lights (A, D and G) on my travel bass!
Update: I am all Spiros, all the time.
The oldest set is on the Merchant EUB, the same set of Weichs the bass was strung with when it was built in the early or mid-'90s.
Next up are the set of Mittels on the old Saxon, which I bought used and have had for years, moving from bass to bass as I upgraded.
And I finally caved, taking the Flexocors off the Solano and installing a used but fairly fresh set of Mittels. That bass is dark.

I've got my Spiro Mittells in 2010, used, from a friend who bought'em a year before, but he had played them no more than three months, ended up solding his bass.
I must admitt that since then I have been switching between Eva Pirazzi Weich, Correlli 370 Forte (really nice string, but quieter than Spiro, obviously..) and also a short time with Pirastro FlatChromesteel (bought from a TB fellow, really nice too especially for arco, but couldnt kepp because I've bought the set missing the G, consciously). .
But like any good love story, I always come back to my old and first love, Spiro Mittel. It's my second bass and they sound just awesome now, this bass is darker so they don't sound zingy at all, just heavy, clear, middy (not on the bad side), and grows a lot after 5 years. Can't even think or look to another girls these days, I'm in a honeymoon....

Just like the rest of us. So you should qualify.
I'm also a sick man. 2 years on a set of spiros, tried Evah medium, evah weich, innovation super silvers, Zyex and Animas until going back to spiro Reds (quickly trying Weich but too weak on my bass). It feels like home again.
If this is against the rules let me know but I have a dead set of spiro weich 4/4 (sounds like a year of use) that don't work on my bass and I'd like to send
Them to a fellow dead spiro player in need of a new dead set. If there's such a person pm me. Also my spiro Reds full set is sounding amazing

Such a good soul! But what does "dont work on my bass" mean? Does the 4/4 weich set feel very loose? I use An 4/4 Mittel set in a 3/4 bass and there is lot of tension...

If 4/4 weichs are too loose and 4/4 Mittels are too tight then you need 3/4 weichs. That's what I use on my bass.
The 4/4 weich don't feel good to the left hand and only sound good played through an amp. I also over play them naturally so the 4/4 mittles are perfect for me. I'm looking into actually adding a Stark E because this one seems a little weak to me. Anyone got one lying around?
So I availed myself of bskts247's generous offer to donate a set of used S42Ws to a dead Spiro freak in need of a set, in exchange for a promise to put down my thoughts in this thread.
The bass I tested them on is my '97 Solano flatback, one of the simple student-grade instruments Rumano was making back then. My preferred string on this bass, after testing a number of different sets, is Flexocor 92s in Orchestra gauge. This bass has tremendous gravitas under the bow with these strings and is wonderfully dark.
As I expected, the 4/4 Spiro Weichs lost a lot of that gravitas. It had nice cut and growl, but much less power than the 92s. So I put the 92s back on.
The S42Ws will make a fine backup set for my EUB, and for this I am thankful.
