Time for new strings?

It seems my Labella black nylon tapewounds (short scale) are starting to wear away. The G string has a couple white spots where it seems like the coating is going. Is the writing on the wall? Will it snap in two someday soon?

I've had them on about a year, play about an hour a day, and use a pick, if that is pertinent

Are those white spots on G where the pick contacts the string? If so, the nylon cover, being a softer material, is wearing out. I don't think you would have to worry about the whole string snapping, though.

I find that if I'm asking if it's time for new strings, it probably is. I don't think you can replace your stings too often. I don't do it every gig or anything, but if your bass isn't sounding "right" but you can't put your finger on it, try new strings.
