Tiny Boy Basses

I definitely want one!

I received my tiny boy black flamed maple p bass. These really do sound good and are fun to play. The first one I received had some issues with the top, so I had to have it replaced. The new one has since arrived, and is now with my local luthier having the bridge swapped to a Babicz bridge, pickups being swapped for chrome DiMarzio Relentless pickups, throwing on some Pyramid 23" tapewound strings and doing a full setup. Really looking forward to playing with it once everything is swapped out!!

Congrats!

Ah: where'j get the Pyramids? Custom order from the factory?

In regards to the Pyramid strings, I just emailed the company and they happened to have a couple sets in stock, so I bought one set.

As far as pricing on the instrument, they are spendy, but I think I offered about $100 under asking price on Reverb and it was accepted. Also Kanilea Ukuleles has them available through their website now as well.

Thanks, it's a fun little bass! The first one shouldn't have made it through QC. There were lines on the top where two veneers met on each side of the bass. One side was barely noticeable, but the other side had this black line. The funny thing is, I still have the defective one here in a box ready to ship out for months but they can't figure out how to get it from me. Asked me to hold onto it until late July when someone here in the states will be around to receive it. Free storage until then I guess lol.

Oh yeah, that's not good! Glad they got you another, they're in short supply. I ordered the oiled wood version and can't wait! I love tiny guitars, I collect Mando guitars and ukuleles and love my Vox mini XII, so a tiny bass is just what I need!

I just got my bass, the spalted maple is great. It needs a setup to intonate well even on just the first few frets, they are out of tune compared to open by a noticeable amount ( assume the nut is too high, but I'm no luthier). The control knobs also are unfinished wood which I'll remedy easily enough. But I'm already in love with it, the size it amazing, the sound is fantastic, and it's exactly what I wanted.

What strings did you change to? I can't tell from the photo, are they flatwound?

Hey @maddogsauce I'm just checking in with you - I'm going to change the strings and wondering how you like those Pyramid tapewounds? The flatwounds for 23" are very pricey so if the tapewounds get it done and have no problems I might land there. I appreciate your feedback!
