Tiran Porter-Doobie Brothers Group

I’ve decided it was time to shine a Facebook light on a favorite player of mine, who just doesn’t have a place to get some love online. I created the Tiran Porter Fans page to discuss, add pics and videos, gear talk, anything Tiran-Doobies. Hope my TB brothers will stop in!

I’ve always admired Titan Porter’s playing. His feel, groove, and spot-on note choice are essential elements of every classic DB song. If you’re covering a Doobies tune, you cannot just phone in that bass part. It’s kinda like covering a Beatles tune - you gotta play McCartney’s lines or a very close approximation. I learned a lot about crafting bass lines by listening to Tiran.

Agreed! Not sure how any of their hits would work done any other way. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Unsure! Very little on him from the past several years.
Through the 90's and onward he was playing with the now late Jerry Miller, of Moby Grape, then also participated in some reunion shows of the band with most of the surviving members(original bassist Bob Mosley was involved, but after having had a struggle with some mental issues, was just singing). Later on he was in a band in the Santa Cruz area, not so much a tribute thing, but they would periodically perform an entire Beatles album in one show. Recently, unfortunately, he's been dealing with some health issues, but that's all I can comment on right now.
