To choose a Precision precisely for 1000$

Yes, because the hoards off bass players that play Precisions are all idiots, myself included.
Who would ever want a bass that sits in a mix so perfectly between the kick drum, and guitars, as a Precision?

Don't get me started on those metal guys, like Steve Harris, Geezer Butler, etc..... noobs all.
Over the last week I have decided to get me a bass. I've been playing the guitar for too long before converting to bassism, I know. Please forgive me, and help me find out which Precision, that looks like the one on the attached picture, I may afford for 1000$, maximum.
The vintage ones often go for 1500-2000, according to eBay's completed listings; that is a bit depressing. Question is whether I have to look for a model made outside the US (which country is better? Mexico, Japan, whatnot?)...
(and/) or if the period in which a bass was produced also affects the price considerably, and thus can be taken into consideration (regarding the task: to pick one from the top shelf, if that is possible with 1000$ in hand).
This is actually all I can think of, of factors, at the moment. Please ask or suggest things I might have forgotten.
I have only set a price limit and showed you the finish I've fallen in love with (for the record, similar basses, i.e. with a different pick guard, are also of interest - but I wouldn't trade the dark neck (is this what they call 'rosewood'?) for a lighter one); for the rest of the screening process, I would sincerely appreciate your assistance. Thank you in advance. The question 'Where to get hold of such a bass? (which online store) is probably answered in the forum already, I suppose. I'll have a look.

I would hesitate to spend all your money, or even $1000 if it is not all your money on ANY bass for $1000 if/as it is your first bass. You'll have plenty of time in life to buy the bass of your dreams, and interestingly the bass of your dreams may change over time. It has with me.
Buy a bass that is playable and sounds good. You can find many that achieve that goal for far, far below $1000, and what are you playing the bass through? Save money for an amp and cable at least!
You can buy a Precision bass at so many price points. Do NOT buy online for your first bass. Go to the store. Spend time. Play EVERY bass if you can. Heck, it's your money, enjoy spending it, not just click it away in seconds.
Yeah, I know "looks" are cool, but try to get over that, and find one that sounds/plays well, and make those the priorities. If it ultimately happens to be a P-Bass that also happens to be in Sunburst, and also happens to have a maple neck, then fine. But try all the other basses first!
Good advice. He made his choice already, but there should be a sticky with some of these points in it.

This one has a happy ending, but the thread ABOUT this thread got shut down. And I wasted all that time reading it all the way through. To the OP of this thread, congrats on your new bass.
My post was just an afterthought in case he doesn't like the bass he purchased(I think he gets 30 days to figure that out). I'm a fender guy all the way but the lakland guys must have been asleep at the switch. Now that the OP is playing bass(as well as Guitar) and hanging out here it may not be long before he's on the lookout for a Jazz.
