To: Geddy, if somehow you could read this

I started listening to YES in 1971 when I was only 15 years old. I always dreamed of meeting YES and chatting with them, but I never thought it would really happen. But it did! I finally got the opportunity to meet and chat with each member of YES individually backstage after a YES concert in 2000 (nearly 30 years later!) I was in a YES tribute band at the time, and it was fun chatting with Chris Squire about the Ric 4001CS bass I had at the time. When I shook Steve Howe's hand, I was afraid I would break it as his hand felt so fragile (pardon the pun). And Jon is really short, and very polite.

My point is, never give up on your dream of meeting Geddy Lee. It can happen. It's all a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

I know a guy who has every Rush album tattooed onto his body. He's seen them twenty-something times; travels around Europe to see their shows. He met one of them in Germany (Neil Peart, I think) and got him to sign his arm. He rushed home and straight to the tattoo parlour to get it tattooed over. He was going to get portraits of their faces on his back, but his wife drew the line... Has to be the most dedicated fan I've ever met!

Presto2112, I got to meet a member of ShaNaNa as a kid & it was a dream come true. It's not impossible. Try getting a job at a venue or hotel near you where they would be. I read Ace Frehley's book No Regrets recently & he had some brilliant ideas on how to "rub elbows" with favorite bands.

Ain't kids cute! The way their eyes light up when they speak of their hero's.

Rush was my first concert ever. I was 13. It was the 3rd show in the Farewell To Kings tour, Peterborough Ontario. Memorial Arena, rush admission. We were about tenth in line, arriving after school, and stood at Geddy's feet mesmerized by his blasting riffs while singing and playing the Taurus pedals and Moog. In those days the crowd barrier was the edge of the stage itself. I saw quite a number of Toronto and Canadian bands with the only floor monitors , just out of reach, separating me and the performers. Crazy.

Gene Simmons made me want to play bass beginning about six months before that. Seeing Geddy made me want to become a musician.

Edit: I saw them again on the Hemispheres tour which was even more impressive sonically. La Villa Strangiato and The Trees were amazing. No one ever talks about the album. It is friggin awesome!

Live the dream Presto2112! Nothing creepy about it.:D Most of the people on TB are very cool , but there are a few who radiate negativity. Try not to let those people bother you. (Hard to do because I have let a few of them bother me.)

I've been a huge RUSH fan since the early 80's and have seen them over 10 times and every time they were simply amazing! Geddy has been one of my major influences over the years.

I recently got to meet one of my favorite bassists (Armistead Burwell Smith IV (aka Zach Smith) of Pinback) and he was super cool and very nice. We talked about his old Gallien Krueger 800RB and his Alembic basses (one was stolen and he got it back). My fiance and I got a photo with Zach and Rob Crow and the whole band signed a Pinback CD for me. I'm 42 years old and I felt like a kid in a candy store when I got to meet him. It was an experience that I'll never forget.
I'd share the photo , but this is a Geddy Lee thread (It's my icon photo). My nephew also took a couple cool videos during the Pinabck show and you can see my fiance and I in the front row a couple feet from Zach. Unfortunately - every Rush show that I have seen I was pretty far from the stage. :crying:

I forgot to add in my last post. It's great to see some of the younger generation appreciate such a great band. You have my respect for that. I truly hope that Geddy somehow does read this thread and that your dream comes true. You are one up on me at least - I never got through on Rockline when they were on.

Interesting this thread is still going. I'm 19 and discovered Rush four years ago during a very rough time. School was a challenge everyday, and nothing had any reason or meaning. Then, I started playing bass, and it changed everything. I started listening to Rush and it helped me find the value in myself...I was able to hold my head up and grow into myself, so to speak.

I really wanted to see Rush in the fall when they came through, but circumstances prevented it from happening. I heard a rumor that they're going to play some more U.S. shows in the summer, and I'm clinging to it. Needless to say, it would be amazing to meet Rush, but their music and the chance to see them play live is enough for now.

that's the great thing about the modern era, with mass production, big venues, we basically have gotten to meet the guys in Rush. It's not face to face, getting to shake their hand etc., but with their music and all the interviews available we've gotten to know them, and I think it's not laying it on too thick to say that we as fans do love them as people.
That's good enough for me!

Just saw them on 7/28, I got within 10 feet of Geddy and Alex (I hate concert ushers ugh) and that was good enough for me, I'd still love to meet them but just being that close during 2112 when Geddy goes over to Alex's "side of the world" and does the drumming with his hands. It was the day before his 60th birthday which was pretty cool. I even asked Scott Appleton for a pick after the show but he had already put them away, oh well. Since this rather "stalkerish" post by me I've attained a moving pictures album signed by Geddy and Alex, a drumstick used by Neil on the Roll the Bones tour and some bass strings used on the CA tour, signed by Geddy of course. If my friend wouldn't have called me back when I got past security heading towards backstage, I may have met them. Anyways, I'm still a rush nut and am almost 17 and I still get the girly giggles during rush shows haha. Peace guys:bassist:
