To Much Christmas

One interesting thing I've read/heard before is that many retail stores are in the red until the holidays roll around (usually Black Friday). I'm curious what would happen to a lot of businesses if more people decided to cut back on the gift-giving aspect of Christmas.

I have two little girls. So I get to live through them during all this. I love every minute of it. The wonder in their eyes just makes me happy to the core. I could never get enough of their pointing and giggling and gasping at all the sparkly shiny stuff. I wish every holiday had lights and other sparkly stuff. I love it all. I don't care if it's a freakin' AT&T commercial, if it has to do with Christmas I'm all about it.

You guys should lighten up and enjoy life a little more. There are plenty of things to complain about. Pretty lights and everyone wishing each other well is not one of them.

Start it around May I say. Heck let's have three of them each year so it never goes away.

Now we draw names, one gift each, except for the younger kids - grandma and grandpa, aunties, etc. like to do a couple for them. As others have said, the emphasize is on family and being together.

We also make sure that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is for our immediate family - mom, dad, bro and sis.

Between myself, my parents, brother and his wife, we all buy each other one gift with a $50 limit (often gets broken). The extended family does a white elephant thing with a $35 limit per gift. We used to buy everyone something, but the white elephant is much more fun.

Agreed! The holidays are some of my favorite times of the year. I love the hot chocolate, the Charlie Brown Christmas specials, the decorations, the awesome food, the good will towards are fellow men, etc... It's just nice :)

I love all of that too! Love the Christmas lights!! It's just the insane shopping that I've done away with. I can see giving your young children ( or for me, my two grandsons) a Christmas with a gift, but for everybody else it's not needed.

It's almost like it's this society tries to make you feel like you are expected to buy, buy and buy more at Christmas. In reality....I really can't afford that.
