To Much Christmas

Sudwerk Doppelbock usually shows up sometime in December. I could drink it all year. Christmas hoopla however, can take a flying leap
Thats because people typically have less money in the month of December. End of year stuff, along with gift shopping. People wouldnt be able to afford decorations if they had to wait until after Thanksgiving. It really makes sense if you think about it.
Im almost dont Christmas shopping, but Ive yet to buy any decorations. Kind of doing it the other way around.
Two local Radio stations have been playing Xmas tuneage since Halloween....and they will cut it off on Xmas night. IMO, it would be nice if they held off longer & then allow the Xmas music to continue until New Year's.

I agree. I have my lights up on the house, but won't turn them on until Thanksgiving night. I leave them on through New Years Day.
I could do without Christmas altogether if it wouldn't screw up the plot of Die Hard for it to not exist. Oh well.

Like i said earlier i've been doing crazy christmas setups for a couple of houses. Here's some pics of just the Garland; basically it kinda wraps around the ceiling line of a room, on chandeliers, around entryways, etc... The gold garland for one house is over 160 feet total. The green garland in the background is around 300 feet total with white and colored LED's running throughout. The tree in the foreground is a 7 footer by the way, most of the hanging pieces are 18 feet long. I did all of this.

.....I love to play with my Lionel train.I remember when I was a kid how they gave you time to breathe in between Halloween, Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Now it's like once Halloween rolls around they've got it all up and going.
Yeah, it's like they can't wait to get those dollars pouring in. Makes me glad my Christmas shopping days are long over with the exception of my two little grandsons...one gift each, extra for charities and that's it. I told everybody "I don't have to get a gift to feel loved, so if you feel like you have to spend money then please give to charity. We have, they don't."
Yeah, it would sure mess up "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" too.

In my family ,gifts have never been part of Christmas. Christmas is about getting together, dinner, having a good time, visiting relatives that you dont see through the year or they visiting you. For me, my wife and kids is all about Jesus, that is what we celebrate. My kids will get one present only from Dad and Mom, we wont give presents to any other relatives and they wont give us any neither. Nobody get offended and everybody is happy.
I know the OP made a typo in the thread name, but when I first looked at it I thought it would be him espousing his love for Christmas as in To: Much Christmas. I was going to post about how insane it is getting every year... then I read the thread and it seems like we are all on the same page.
I do enjoy some of the Christmas themed movies though... Santa's Slay has alwyas been a personal favorite of mine.

I do enjoy Christmas, which is why I wish they would hold off on it. I don't like being burned out on it by the time it gets here. What ever happened to the 12 days of Christmas. Now its like the 62 days of Christmas.
And this. I like how someone on this forum once put it: "why is it that we celebrate the birth of the least materialistic person who ever walked the earth by going on these insane shopping spree's?" That really got me thinking because it's so true. Again, I can see getting my grandson's a little something but that's it as far as gift giving goes.
What part of Michgan are you in? I'm in Oakland county just west of Union Lake.
We have de-emphasized the gift part A LOT over the last years. It used to take us like 3 hours - that was a family of 6 - to open gifts. It was insane. Now we draw names, one gift each, except for the younger kids - grandma and grandpa, aunties, etc. like to do a couple for them. As others have said, the emphasize is on family and being together.
We also make sure that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is for our immediate family - mom, dad, bro and sis.
