I don't agree, sorry. I've had basses and guitars with both and I don't think there's a tonal difference whatsoever. I think the finger is what makes the difference in tone, and whether it's a nut or a zero fret is immaterial.More consistent tone between open strings and fretted notes.
I have basses with both zero frets and none, and I don't think it makes a difference in sound. CERTAINLY not as much difference as changing strings.
