Haha Lobster11 you are right the C#-B-A is on ni-ine stretched out. Yeah I think of the chorus as "Jenny I got your number . . ." and the bridge as "I got it, I got it . . . " The bridge part as I recall goes from C# to F# back to C# to A (letting it ring out) then back into the main riff. I played the song so many times it just comes naturally without thinking which is good I guess

Thanks for this. I wasn't really very familiar with the idea of a "pre-chorus," although I have seen it a couple of times on chord charts, so this prodded me doing a little snooping around the interwebs about it. Although there seem to be diverse opinions about such things, I have to agree that the "Jenny, I got your number" part is best considered a "pre-chorus" because of the way it functions in the song structure: i.e., to set up the chorus ("the "867-5309" part).

I've got to say that it really performs that function well, too: The song would be much less interesting without it -- or if it came after rather than before the "chorus."

The recording is way out of tune.

It's been a while since I've been in a band that did this song, but I remember that it really helped to change the pitch of the recording to match standard tuning when transcribing or playing along to it.

I can grab an A440 right now and play along -starting on f#.
It may be +/- a few cents out.... but I wouldn't call it WAY out of tune.....


EDIT: hey...actually... Idk 100% if it is or not. Honestly I haven't played along to the recording in a few years. However- I certainly do not RECALL it being that bad. Hmmm ...

Everything is relative. As I said, it's been a while, but if memory serves it was .3 or .4 of a semitone out on the version I had (downloaded from iTunes). It sounded like it might have been a tape transfer issue.

Yeah- it is out of tune on most versions I have heard- those open E's always sound funny when I play along with it, think the recording is sharp if memory serves correct. They probably sped up the tape...
