Tonal diff. between Fender 62RI & Std jazz bass US made

I think I must be the only person that doesnt like the 2008 MIA jazz. I like the '62 reissue for its more scooped out sound. I don't know how else to describe it... vintage sound maybe? I may have got some of the same tones from the 2008 in the shop if I had spent more time on it, but the neck feels all wrong for me... But everyone loves it... go figure. In the end I decided not to get one as I fell in love with a 2nd hand stingray I stumbled upon (which cost me more!). I am left wondering if the '62 would really have ever cut through the mix of my band without needing to boost the signal...

I had a 62 RI Jazz and I wasn't too big a fan of the gloss neck strangely. It was an 84 and it just always felt that the neck finish was just starting to melt. Gross and weird since I've got an 57 RI from 82 and it doesn't have that problem.

I kept it for about a year, till I traded it for amp. It didn't sound bad, but it just lacked somewhere in the tone department (mainly since it wasn't a P-Bass) and the stack knobs kept getting stiff. Might've been dirt, since I never clean basses though, but still.

It sounded good with nickel rounds, but it just lacked balls until I swapped out the pickups for DiMarzios.:bassist:

Oh how about neck difference? Thickness at the nut front to back?

I've been GASin for a new Jazz and keep looking at these two (among others!)

Having tried both, the 62RI has a much thinner neck profile from front to back. I find this much more comfortable to play and that's the main reason I own the 62RI vs. the 08 Jazz.

I can't comment on the tone as I never plugged the 08 into an amplifier, but I'm more than happy with my 62RI's sound!
