Because when I practice with records I have to lower the volume, at rehearsal and on stage I have to mute the bass and when I use distortion, sometimes I need to clean up the dirt.
Having no controls is just impractical for me.

Tone Control?...I don't need no stinkin' tone control!

Having no controls is just impractical for me.
I bought an Atelier Baby Z PJ from a Japanese pawnshop. I could tell the preamp had been pulled and the pickups replaced with Seymour Duncans--that was part of the attraction, as I don't like those stock preamps but love the make and model--but was surprised to find the bass re-wired V/V/Master V. It doesn't bother me in PJ mode but there's definitely less versatility when soloing the P. Why why why?
Ive used SB-2s for years and like the v-v arrangement but I almost always use the split coil only. This thread oddly inspired me to turn it into an SB-1 so I disconnected the single coil and added an orange drop. I didn’t get after pics but I captured the original wiring. SB-2 now in v-t mode
I see your single volume knob and cast I don't need any controls.
(This is just one of my basses, all my others have tone and volume controls. This was just a fun experiment and it's cool to have something different! I could probably go without a volume control as long as I had pickup selection and tone control on most of my basses.)
I didn’t like the cap value. I think it was a 47 uF which is pretty standard but it rolled off highs too quickly on the dial. It also tamed the bass somewhat. Not as lively with the tone pot wide open. I ended up going back to stock v-v yesterday.
