Tone Hammer 500 vs DB 751

Generally speaking I'm a huge fan of buying used, but they come with a really heavy warranty new, and coming from a vintage amp I kept having to dump money into I think I would rather put it off, save up cash to buy new and have peace of mind that if something's wrong its covered.

I've just bought a TH500. Love it. I have a DB750 as well. I'm also of the opinion that the 750 just has a little something extra the 751 is missing. I prefer the look as well of the 750 over the 751 as well.

When I'm out I use the 750 into a DB410 and my ears were accustomed to that. Recently I've been using the TH500 with a pair of DB112s and I'm not missing anything over the larger rig. Just my $.02!

That's what I figure- I know I like the tone hammer so best case scenario after a few gigs I love it and keep it forever. Worst case scenario I gig it heavily for six to twelve months then get a DB... The tone hammer is cheap enough that even if I did buy a DB later on I'd probably just keep both.

I was thinking I could part with my upright bass I never have time to play in order to pay for a good chunk of the amp, but then I realized I should probably sell the bass and fix my leaking roof before spending a bunch if money on something when I could get by with less.

Right on. About those two amps - like brothers - share some similar tones. If the Tone Hammer had the same power section as either the DB 750 or 751 I'd be on it like a duck on a June bug.

I've never thought of the SVT is crisp. It's more of a slicing top end as you dial it up. It's tough putting this into words, but it gets harsher as you crank it. The DB750 has a modern crispness up top, more of a pinging quality, airy perhaps. Not that vintage glass like the SVT. They are two different flavors of great IMHO, and neither is really a replacement for the other if you want both of those amps functional abilities.

Resurrecting this one.
I had a great deal on a 750, but the seller sold it to someone else just before I was able to head over.
But now I've got another idea. There's a DB 728 for sale locally. Do you think that could work with my tonehammer pedal in front of it as a preamp?
Could potentially be awesome.

Or should I go for a Tonehammer 500? Or should I be patient and try to find a DB 750?

(Right now I'm playing through a Fender PA 135 tube amp and an 8 ohm DB410)

I've got a fair amount of gig time on my TH 500 which I usually run flat out into 4 ohms for a clean Reggae tone for small to medium sized gigs. It's a well made amp that I still use. I've used a DB 680 too and of course that sounded great though I sold it. I nearly bought a DB 750 or a DB 751, either does very well for my 1 tone needs.
I got my best results from a DB 659 because it allowed my to use a Class D power amp for big clean tone. I don't yet have a consensus on whether the preamp part of the DB 659 is exactly the same as the DB 750. The DB 659 sounds good on every gig - somehow it just nails the tone I like every time. The 659 never let me wonder if I wanted to pursue a 750 or a 751. The 659 responds very noticeably to tube rolling although mine is pretty much retired now.
And as it's been said above, Aguilar's amps have a cool tone about them.
This is just some respectful rambling. :)
