Tone Hammer DI appreciation thread

But if you look closely at the top right corner of the pedal, the color of the label for the small knob matches suspiciously with the Drive footswitch label:View attachment 7060491

Could this be a drive level control knob?
It certainly looked that way to me, which is why I posted that it could easily be an early prototype going through functional testing. FWIW I think a variable drive on a TH pedal (like what they have on the heads) would be a tremendous value-added improvement over the first version that I own.

I'm not sure what the new pedal format design is for Aguilar, but that doesn't look like a typical Aguilar pedal that I'm familiar with...once again leading me to think "prototype for beta testing"...could be wrong though.

Saw a listing for this on the ‘Bay, it was titled Aguilar Tone Hammer DI V2. Looks to be a new product but probably wasn’t supposed to be listed because the listing got pulled down a few hours later.

Looks like I’ll wait for the new V2; I recall having trouble with getting the original pedal working with pedalboards due to the large chassis.

Saw that yesterday when I was looking to get a new one. Excited for this official release.

😂 I called and they confirmed, an Aguilar/Korg rep was upset at them for the blunder. It should have an official release next week :)!

That's why if I was a large maker like an Aguilar, I would ship early only to my biggest sellers/distributors as they will take more care not to let something like this happen as they have too much to lose. Can you imagine if Sweetwater or GC/MF had to tell everyone, sorry we can't carry any Aguilar stuff anymore because we were dumb and let a product out early. I would ship out to all the other sellers a couple of days ahead of release so they would hopefully get them on release day or right after.

Looks like stickers on there. I wonder if @Al Kraft is correct, and this is a prototype - maybe still deciding if they should use AGS or Drive.

I also wonder why even have the second foot switch for "Drive." IMO, just make it like the amp. But maybe they fixed the volume matching problem, and that's why there is a foot switch. If that's the case, I think a lot of people will be happy.

Ooh, this is most interesting. I've been using the THDI for a few months now and really like it. I'm not really one for pedals, I just like to get a great tone and keep it simple. That said, a usable drive on the THDI, rather than having to basically choose AGS on or off due to the volume boost, is surely a feature that many have been crying out for.

The best thing I can see, which surprisingly nobody has mentioned yet, is the addition of 3.5mm headphone out and aux in, which I think is fantastic and was the main thing previously lacking for me. So many preamp/DI boxes have that feature now, that Aguilar were being left behind in that regard, so it's great that they've addressed it now. I also like that they've gone for a VTDI style enclosure, and moved the DI from the top to the left, along with the Pre/Post & Ground Lift buttons. I wonder if there is any weight saving, I mean the original is a hefty beast.

The knobs look great and I even like that the writing has gone below them this time. The top jacks have remained and it's still 18V, presumably analog too. Looking forward to the release & videos of this thing. The headphone addition alone might swing it for me, I love the thought of plugging straight into my board without having to use an extra jack lead, plug my practice amp in and plug my headphones into that.

I saw in my email last night that the picture of the latest version that was posted earlier in this thread is the actual retail product. I like the idea of the variable drive (like on the TH head), headphone capability, and aux in....all great additions to an already stellar product.

I think that’s the design of it. BUT I do think they missed a real opportunity by turning it into a two channel preamp simply by adding a volume control to the drive side to avoid the spike when engaged. Even a very small set-and-forget knob would have been appropriate.

If you search many of the forums, there’s a lot of confusion about the drive setting and the volume spike. Calling it a V2 would imply that there have been improvements on the design. A little disappointing for me.
I saw another angle of the V2. The little knob between Gain and Treble looks to be exactly like a volume knob for the drive section. I missed that on the first look.
