Tone Settings!

He's got two settings from what I could tell from taking a close look at his live rig.

The first one is set up like so (I guess I'd like to all this the "Peace Sells" tone)

Bass- 1:00
Mid- max (g-g-g-goddamn!)
treb- 10:00

The second one has a really strong bassy punch. (aka: the "Sweating Bullets" tone)

Bass- 3:00
Mid- Off
Treb- 1:00

Who cares? The amp settings don't give you any useful information without knowing their amp and speakers. And, are they using that amp in the studio? Are you hearing their rig in the PA? Besides, those settings won't give you their sound without their instruments, their fingers, their experiences and life, their drummer, and their guitarists.

Totally agree. If someone just sounds like everyone else that plays bass, it would be boring. If Every metal bassist sounded like Steve Harris, it would be boring.

Ah, but copping Harris' tone for the two Iron Maiden songs you do in your wish I was a rock star tribute band would be great. If you're playing originals, get your own damned tone, damn it! Damned crazy kids... sheesh! :eek:

I assume y'all know what bass, amp and cab he uses 'cause the effect of a given setting will be different for different model amps - and different model basses and cabs sound different too.
That said, if I know what gear a certain player uses I think it's cool to know his settings.
As for the life experiences, I can always channel those with crystals and chemicals - it's a snap!
I don't know why these ego blowhards who discourage discussion with comments like 'it's just so and so, it's in their hands and not their gear' are even on this discussion board. Do they think Geddy Lee wasn't intensely interested in Entwistle and Squire's gear and settings back when he was getting it together in the early/mid 70's?
Gear and settings is a big part of great tone. That's why great players with great tone obsess over it.
