how does the price of a pedal, affect it's tone or function?
he uses a few Boss pedals as does Adam Jones, because they have the sound they desire.
Interesting. I had some of chancellors effects and honestly I have been selling them to get better stuff. I sold my BR-2 and my Chorus ensemble within the past week. There are way way better chorus's and I found the BR2 to drain way to much bass AND volume. (this was after I spent 130$ on a booster to run after it) It still struggled to break through into the mix with the boost. I have the mxr filter on the way though and am quite certain it will get me what i'm looking for. I also find the pitchfactor to be a superior choice to the bass whammy. However I am very interested in getting a GT-2.
It's not the price. I guess I should not have worded it that way. I have tried a bunch of boss pedals and they all sucked tone, sounded very digital, and did not have true bypass. I cant imagine why somebody would want a boss ce-5 over say a corona chorus or a liquid chorus or an analogman. If you ask me they are superior choices in every way. I said cheap because the reason I would get a boss ce-5 over the others I listed would be because of cost reasons. You know what I mean? I don't want to sound arrogant like i'm too good for cheap effects haha. I have the dd-3 and wouldn't trade it for any delay. I absolutely love it
There is no comparison the BEF completely smokes the BR2! There are a couple of us who are in a very small minority here that have been singing the praises of the GT-2 for ages! I myself have had one of these in my possession since 1995 or so!
Good to hear assurance on the MXR! Right now its a toss up between the GT-2 and the Zvex Basstortion for me. It's the last pedal to complete my board and its down to these two. I can't decide
I have heard some people say the GT-2 can sound too "guitar" like. Can you get thick bassy sounds out of it? I don't want it to sound thin in the mix or anything. Also, it seems quite a bit more versatile than the basstortion. The basstortion sounds great but it only has volume, tone, and gain knobs whereas the GT-2 has separate bass and treble knobs and all the little switches that change the amp, speakers, etc or whatever they do lol. How much do the switches affect the sound of the distortion?
Ok, I'm wondering about the zvex basstortion now. I'm really wanting a good distortion pedal to add to my rig. I have an mxr bass fuzz but I can't seem to get that pedal to come through in the mix. I even have a sans amp bass driver DI to help it. So, have any of you worked with the basstortion? It's between that, the gt2 or if I can find one, the tonebender. Anyone???
The switches are the key to its versatility and make a world of difference. I use mine mostly for "bass through a cranked Marshall" tones, but you can get thick bassy sounds out of it. The "California" switch setting is positively brutal on bass for high gain sounds!!
Good luck dude, I can't find any info on the basstortion. I have posted threads etc. There is a video on youtube of a demo at NAMM but its a pbass through an orange amp so I was kinda like ehhh...alot of that drive could have been the amp. Not to mention I play a Wal so a P bass is pretty much exact opposite. I'm having a hard time choosing but im leaning toward the GT-2 for its versatility
Maybe I will try the gt2 as well. I keep hearing great things besides the "it's for a guitar" thing. Plus, Justin chancellor uses one so I think I'll give it a shot. I'm hoping the distortion it produces is nasty.
I bought a used GT2 at L&M on a whim, after hearing Justin Meldal Johnsen recommend it... HOLY MOLY there's a lot of SOUNDS packed into that little box! $50 well spent.
I'm gonna trust your guys experience with effects and choose the GT-2 over the basstortion. I just ordered one on musiciansfriend. and its on its way. This pedal better rock!
It does, believe me. Spend time with it and really dig into the controls...and write down your settings (or at least commit them to memory)!!
The only thing I can't use mine for is my hollowbodies, everything else is fair game!
Sorry for the thread derail, but I got to borrow that same 50 dollar GT2 (thanks bud!), and basically fell in love with it....and I've tried/built hundreds of overdrives....
Holy!...that's cheap. Used ones this way at L+M are usually at least over $125
Was it "used well" or something? If it was old and beat up a bit there is a chance that it is a 5 digit serial number? If so you got a good deal (either way)
The newer ones have 6 digits and some experience around here says the 5 digit ones sound better. I did have 3 at one time and found the 5 digit one to be a bit "warmer" and less harsh on the same settings

Yeah thats very cheap, I saw one in the classified about a month ago for 100 and I thought that was a good deal.
