Hi there
Tonedexter has released the 2.0 firmware with new features.
Most important all slots are now recorded without feedback correction just like slot 22 used to be. The notch filter is changed to a feedback filter so you can dial in the amount of feedback suppression that used to be at 100% on all slots but slot 22.
Your old IR slots still works but without the new features.
The algorithm has been improved and I think it sounds even more microphone like on my bass than before. I have been using the Tonedexter for two years now and I am really happy with the way it sounds.

Actually, V.2.01 was just now posted; fixes some bugs in V.2.0.

Agreed; these seem like the best wavemaps yet! I really like the new feedback filter, which seems to subtly “thin out” the tone through its range. I was never that much of a fan of the hpf on my AI amps, which always seemed to be like using a meat cleaver. This is definitely more “scalpel-like.” The Tonedexter just seems to get better and better!

Yes the anti feedback knob is great.
I only miss the ability to blend the pure "unfocussed" Tonedexter sound with the pickup.
So now I have bought a Lehle passive splitter to split the signal from the FC pickup before the Tonedexter and then the EBS Stanley Clarke preamp to blend the FC with the unfocussed Tonedexter sound. Since the latency of Tonedexter is less than 1 ms I hope this works without time allignment. We will see.

I thought I had moved on from the Tonedexter, not because it isn't a great option, just that I have others I was interested in exploring, but man this new update is crazy good. I honestly do not see why more cats don't use this thing. I made exactly one WM this morning just to revisit and see what was up lately and wow. The artifacts (what faint things they were) are gone. Total control over all mic to mic/pickup blend. All the things that were good earlier are way fricken better. Warm present mic sound all morning. Since I only made one (and I read the directions) I could test the others which still function the same (and I had filled all the slots with different mics and placements) and the new one functions way better right off the bat (I cant even tweak it to get it to feedback or sound hollow) Going to get out the other mics and make some more I guess...
Every time I thought I might sell it, I kept thinking, man these guys (James et al) are so responsive and smart that they are going to crack more codes and really dial this in. So glad I kept it...even just to play with for the next three locked down weeks.

I'm going to get the update and spend some time with it tomorrow. Any suggestions on my new maps? My first favs, with 1.5 something were made Arco, but the next few, with 1.6, pizz. I am surprised that I haven't seen more guys using this thing. It's expensive, but not compared to mics I've bought that were not really useable in most of the situations I encounter.

I do the level setting with arco open strings, then the training part arco and part pizz. You really can’t dawdle on one or the other now, as the training is so quick — less than a minute!

I’d be interested to hear what results you guys could get by putting your Sarno Black boxes in front of the Tonedexter during the training. Also putting them between the pickup and the Tonedexter on tracks that were trained with and without it.

I don’t notice a difference in wavemaps made with and without the Sarno Black Box in front of the Tonedexter. I do notice a difference when using the BB between the pick-up and the Tonedexter on previously made wavemaps, where it works as advertised.

this is great News!
I’ve been so close to selling it but I guess it’s time to give it a go again.
...and hopefully I can park my Schoeps buying dreams again!

With this new version the best sound I had was with no tube preamp at all...With the old WM I liked having the Sarnos at either end, but somehow what I got yesterday sounded best with just a single Yamahiko E side going in and straight into the powered speaker.
I did notice on a second pass that a buzzing pickup wire (I hadn't noticed during training) transferred to the WM causing some weird high end quirk, but thats just a bad WM that needs a redo.
After all the hook up I went back and just plugged in the Y to the Sarno V8 to see what the diff was and while the Dex totally has the mic thing dialed, the V8 is still a rocking sound...it has a lot of the elements of the mixed sound but direct and powerful. I have about 7 or 8 ridiculously great ways to amplify my bass now. I am so done.

This sounds really great to me.
Black Box>Splitter>Tonedexter 2.0> EBS Stanley Clarke preamp.
2/3 Tonedexter unfocussed or 50% focussed sound blended with 1/3 Full Circle pickup.

I updated my td to 2.01and trained a few new wavemaps, best sound I've gotten out of this little-ish red box. I was curious about external blending as well but am finding the character knob at 1 is doing it for me right now. I really would like to internally be able to blend pickup with the full mic sound, however, maybe at some point that will be doable.

I have tried many before but right now all wavemaps are made with an AKG C1000s that someone in this forum recommended some time ago. It is cheap but works really well with the Tonedexter on double bass. Do you have a favourite mic.?
