Tonehammer di into iPad?

I have some limited experience with GarageBand on iPad. I am really clueless on playing and recording ampless. Does anyone practice by themselves or with band by Running a signal chain like this?

Bass-pedals-di(tonehammer in my case)--ipad-cans

I assume I would need some interface between tonehammer and iPad...apogee jam? Other suggestions?

Would love to use the iPad to record band practice but assume I would need a bigger multichannel interface?

Any input would be greatly appreciated... Thanks

I have an Apogee Jam and I rarely use it because there is a noticeable delay, kinda like the delay when your amp is ~20-30 feet away. Finger style, it's not that noticeable but slapping or something with a hard attack makes it really noticeable. I thought that maybe it was my older iPad, but I tried with my iPhone 6 Plus and it had the same delay. Recording practices though has been easy using the standard recorder for the iPhone. Just need to find a good spot where it's not too loud.
