I don’t think this is fretless. It’s too much in tune for Bruce’s fretless playing
I think it is his EB3 and he is bending the strings. He did that a lot in the Cream days. Not sure what year this is but Jack Bruce started playing fretless from 1976. I think this recording is from before (?).

I didn’t say it was fretless. I meant to say that I liked Jack Bruce’s playing when he went fretless. My favorite Jack Bruce album of all time has beautiful fretless Warwick Thumb tone:

Jack Bruce really helped me fall in love with bass deeply again. He studied a classical instrument, he wore cool fair isle sweaters, and he took awesome pictures with his dog and bass. That's pretty awesome to me. From a CD shop I have some albums of his from live shows, enjoy collecting, definitely dig him more in Cream felt he shine more but love Jack Bruce anyway, biggest inspiration for me.

Very amazing share, while not the tone for everyone I enjoy his tone a lot!

I have never warmed to his distorted tone, but dude could play and Tony Williams was a master. I love Jack Bruce’s fretless tone.

I liked Jack with cream, but this "tune" sounds like someone wanking around a GC IMHO.

I have spent a lot of time in GC’s; maybe that is why I like it!

Aside from WBL and BBM(both of which were bill-paying projects)his post-Cream output was far more fascinating and had more depth and a wider scope than Cream ever had. If anything, Cream had far too many limitations that would have continued to stifle him.
I had no problem with his sound, it was unique and had authority. So many here get hot and bothered over Mel Schacher, his buzzsaw bass was far more potentially annoying, forget the bong rattling.

Cream got me into Bruce, but when I break out Jack Bruce recordings its usually his post Cream work.

Musical choices. At least Ginger had one more all time crushing album on Blind Faith.
Heck, as far as life choices go the two best things I ever did was get off drugs, and sire my twins. Everything else has been a shiiteshow.

I have exactly the opposite. Loved his playing before he went fretless. I love fretless bass though.

Since we are posting our favorite post Cream Bruce/Jack-era Lifetime stuff, let me post this little tune. Written by McLaughlin, it has one of Jack’s best vocal performances (IMO).

It breaks into some angular instrumental bits that might sound like GC on a crowded Saturday to some, but to me it’s a pretty inspired piece.

Bruce was part of a tribute album for Tony Williams called Spectrum Road, killer band!

He toured that band. Came up to Seattle with it. The dummer's husband was in the audience.
